I thought It would be nice idea to start a thread about Taxidermists. I think we all agree it's better to have someone scouted out a head of time.

So, who do you guys recommend? Also, include where the paticular Taxi is located and the cost that can be expected for their work.

It would be nice if we could have a list of some sorted by region (for those who aren't familar with the town/area listed).

Lost trail taxidermy in Guthrie Center (west central IA) his work is sencond to none and turnaround was about 4months. Last years price was $425.

Good example of what I wanted. Thank you for including the turnaround time.

Anyone else?

I have only shoulder mounted one buck and that was done 5 years ago by fuzzys taxi in Anita. I had my deer back in exactly 2 months. Price was 350

Rob Howard in ankeny(central). $450 8-12 months. Has done a couple for me and very pleased compared to others I've had done elsewhere.

Want his info. PM me. :way:

I'm 500, guaranteed turnaround in 8 months but probably less. Located in Coralville.Check out website below for pics of my work and feel free to contact me or stop by with any questions. I am pumped for what Chris and the trophy pursuit guys are going to bring me this fall!

Durk Sterner in Lone Tree, Iowa (30 minutes S of Iowa City) has done 5 heads for me. Very very good work. If you'd like pics of stuff he's done either PM me or stuffy here on the site. Or visit his Facebook page.

Dan Adamson, Creston Iowa.

He does top notch amazing work. His turn around is a little slow as he works full time for the railroad, but his work is worth it.

Not sure on prices, but its close to what everyone else is.

I think mine was Marlin Hoch taxidermy - SE of Des Moines. Amazing work - one heck of a showroom - and turnaround in LESS THAN 3 WEEKS! ;)

Thanks guys! Though, I'd appreciate it if you guys would include the price it cost you for your mounts. I'm sure other people would appreciate it too.

I can't speak for everyone here, but I don't feel like spending close to $500 for a mount. Unless, It was a world class whitetail.

Muddy, Gladiator and Nanny...What did your guys charge?

If anyone here is from MN, Randy Tetrick from TK Taxidermy is well worth a look. He is located in the southern twin cities. His prices are a little high compared to others (Last time I heard, I think he was about $650 for a shoulder mount), but does some of the best work Ive seen. He does quite a few replicas, and has guys shipping him racks from all over the nation, and has even won a few contests.. Google his name if you wanna find his website..

Folate taxidermy in Bethany Missouri, (20 miles south of the Iowa line) a shoulder mount is $400, he does really really good work and is underpriced for the quality. Look up folgate taxidermy on Facebook

You get what you pay for. I got a buddy that paid 250 - 300 i think. He is happy with it, but i think it looks like a 50 year old rug with antlers. I personally dont have a problem at all spending top dollar if that is what it takes to get a mount that still looks alive. Just my preference though. The price usually reflects the quality.

Spending less and maybe getting a crappy job on it could be a waste of money. Money doesn't grow on trees at my house either, but I don't care how big the deer is, world class or not, take it to a quality taxidermist, or don't take it there at all.

I have been very happy with Meyer Taxidermy in Goose Lake, Clinton County. Mike's work is flawless and he puts the same effort into a 100" buck as a world class animal. He usually does them in the order they come in so you'll wait less time for an October deer than one taken to him late season. It's been a few years since I have had the pleasure of taking one to him so I can't quote his current prices. Again, if mounting a deer you need to shop quality workmanship ahead of price.
