    2 acre bean food plot

GS quantity is perfect. I wouldn't be afraid to go up to 40-50# on soybeans.

    2 acre bean food plot

Don't go too heavy on the grain sorghum. 10-12# / acre max if broadcast. I wouldn't go heavier than 10# / acre drilled. When I mix with GS, I still go 75#+ per acre of beans in this mix.

Great podcast to listen to! Steve Hansen on the Land Podcast

The decline of deer numbers in Iowa are likely the single biggest contributor IMO. You now have more people hunting the fewer, better bucks. This has compounded the issue. I've seen the opposite happen here in MO. Rise of population overall numbers, has increased population of better bucks...

    2 acre bean food plot

Agree! As another option, I've gone to mixing soybeans and grain sorghum mix in smaller 1-2 acre plots. Gives them summer food along with a great stand of milo for fall/winter. Anything leftover from the beans are just a bonus. Got this idea from Dbltree in the milo plot thread. Although...

    Question about Fertilizer

Most co-ops and ag services actually operate this way. Tell them you want 0-40-0 or 0-0-40 for XX acres, and they blend accordingly.

Great podcast to listen to! Steve Hansen on the Land Podcast

I thought the point of killing massive amounts of does late season (all carrying dominant buck fawn genes) was quite the eye opener. Had not thought of that before.. Shooting pregnant does - Culling out all the best genetics ?? Then surrounding area does backfill with lesser buck fawns from...

Great podcast to listen to! Steve Hansen on the Land Podcast

Only 3% of deer taken were by nonresident hunters.. Interesting stat.

    Dr James Kroll - EHD & CWD….

That's like banning multivitamins when people get a cold.. Guess I don't see the logic in a very social animal structure. I'd rather feed with vitamins and minerals to strengthen the animal, and give it a chance to survive from what is certain exposure.

My little project this year. 500 acre farm with zero deer

Good looking planter. Do you typically need to add weight to that bar?

    Potting norway spruce plugs

Yes. You want to mix 50/50 potting soil + the new soil they are going into. This has yielded great results for me personally.

    Dr James Kroll - EHD & CWD….

From my "limited" reading and knowledge on the subject, it appears all they can say is that it is "possible". But as you pointed out, there are no solid confirmations to say either way. I know CWD has been confirmed in deer since the 1960s, who knows how long it has existed before that.. ...

    Dr James Kroll - EHD & CWD….

Yea, I’d be curious as well. Some second rate news sources starting to plant the “possible” seeds on this one. Not that there’s an agenda or anything..

    Bedding builds

If you open up that canopy (logging, tsi) sounds as though you'll have a lot of invasives take off. May need to look into taking out portions of autumn olive. Personally, I don't like to create individual deer beds. Rather places where they like to bed. My checklist would be to meet with a...
