On Jan. 1 I missed a buck that was lying about thirty yards off the road down in the bottom of a ditch. when I circled around him I took the shot at him while he was lying down. I shot right over top of him. By the time I got reloaded he was gone. On Jan. 3 my father and I were driving home at about four in the afternoon and drove past the spot where I had missed the buck earlier. He made a wisecrack about missing the buck and we kept driving we ment some friends on the road and gave them a wave and kept going. After we had gone another quarter mile I saw them in my mirror flashing their lights and waving out their window. When we stopped they pulled up beside us and asked if we had seen that buck lying in the ditch were I missed the other day. So we went back and sure enough he was standing about ten yards from were I had missed him two days before. This time I made the shot count. He has a typical eigth point frame with a drop tine on the left mainbeam that was broke off about an two inch down. And sticker points coming off both G2s. He fairly thick with about 5 inch average mass mesurements. He has a spread of a little over 16 inches. I am very happy to have havested my largest deer with a muzzleloader.

Congrats! Shot north of Chas'?
I went without shooting this year. Seen 3 or 4 small bucks, that'll be nice ones next year, and waaaay too many does. I wanted to harvest a nice doe this year, but the shotgun hunters got the deer so jumpy, I had trouble getting within a couple hundred yards. I think I'll go back to early muzzle next year.
Maybe I'll run into to you on G-61.
I'll be shed hunting starting next month.

Matt, I did shoot it north of Charles'. It is pretty nice buck. He had been shot in the leg, probably during shotgun season. He was a real young deer. He had a real small body and that made his rack look bigger while he was lying there. I would have loved to see him in a couple of years. By the wear on his teeth I would guess him to be three years old at the oldest. I don't think he was going to make it much longer though you could see his ribs and a lot of his meat was spoiled.

Why was the meat spoiled?

It was because he was shot earlier in the year.
