I was at the Wisconsin Deer and Turkey Expo this past weekend and it was a great show. It was really interesting meeting so many hard-core shed hunters and bowhunters in such a short period of time!

I was in the states with my good friend Jeff Lander of Primitive Outfitting Co. I guide bowhunters for Jeff in the fall and we also shed hunt together extensively. We brought 10 whitetail sheds scoring from 75 to 90 inches and some great mule deer sheds as well. We were in a great booth location near a main entrance and man did those sheds attract some attention! I was laughing after the first 1/2 hour of the show at the double and triple-takes that guys were doing before coming and talking to us!

Like I said it was a great trip, the people were very friendly and we had alot of fun. We made a side-trip to Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin to go to Cabela's, and even drove over the Mississippi to Iowa for a few minutes (just so I could tell you guys I've been there!)

Wisconsin and Iowa are both tremendous whitetail country and I enjoyed the trip very much. Hopefully we'll be back and can meet up with a few more of you next time.

NW,

You made it back! We were starting to worry, I knew you were up in Wisconsin but figured you would be back by yesterday for sure. Oh well it sounds like you had a good trip, and had friendly company.

So you've been to Iowa, what a deal, now it's official. Find any sheds up in NE corner? How about the show, any monster sheds being flashed around?

Tony, we thought hard about knocking on a few doors for permission on our way back to Madison, but we just didn't have the time. Maybe next year we'll have to arrange a north-south get together if we make it that way again.

The open hardwoods that I saw along the road were very inviting for an Alberta boy used to wild rose thickets and willows so thick that you have to crawl on your knees to get through. Oh well, that's where the big guys hang out, and I'm not complaining!

As for the show, the biggest wild deer sheds in the place were on our table, but there was a set from a high-fenced operation that had 198 inches of typical bone and scored 220+ non-typical. Truly impressive, but like I said, a game farm animal.

There was also a guy from Saskatchewan that had some great sheds zipped-strapped to a beam over his head. What a way to display sheds. There may have been a few more big bones lying around, but I didn't see 'em.

We're still looking hard, will be for a month or so. There is a group coming in from Wisconsin to shed hunt next week, they are coming up to hunt in the fall as well and wanted to have a look around. I'll let you know what we come up with!
