I was thinking of using my Brittney and Lab to help in my shed hunting efforts. They always seem to find bones on our walks so I figure it couldn't hurt. Any one else ever try this? Also it will be a great way to get them some exercise.

I've never tried this, but have read about it in a few magazines. The hunters would get there dogs used to picking up sheds by training with an old shed. The hunters said they didn't have a whole lot of luck, but finding just one with your dog would be worth it. Also, I've heard of several instances where someone's dog had picked up a shed and brought it up to the house. In one story, when the owner took the shed from the dog, the dog went out and found the other side and brought it back as well.

A few years ago I was driving down a gravel road and there was a dog walking down the side of it. I slowed down so I wouldnt hit the dog and saw what I thought was a bone. Well it was but it was of the antler type. I stopped and petted the dog and he gave the shed to me. After that I went home and returned with a rawhide bone and some milk bones. That was a good trade for both of us I think! BowHunt'nFool

Took my kids and yellow lab mushroom hunting last Spring and we weren't there 5 minutes and my lab came running down the hill with what had been a beautiful 5 point shed. Rodents had severely damaged it to the point that it was almost in two pieces. Sent her back out to look for more but no luck. Probably just coincidence since she normally comes back with sticks, logs or large rocks anyhow. Maggs
