This is all the sheds I have found this year- a couple of skulls. But after tonight the farmer I hunt on gave me a few more from years past . One is a great 4 point shed with great mass I will try to get a picture.I asked him where on his farm it came from but he didnt remember.I dont think I could have forgot but that is why he probually lets me hunt because he really dont care about deer like the rest of us!!!!

That first pic, is that just a big fork or does it have a brow tine? My brother shot a forky once, but it was 17 1/2" wide! Kinda looks like that one. Nice sheds though!

GOT 2 HUNT,
I posted some pics a week or so ago, and one of the sheds is very similar to the massive four point near the top. The topic is big 4 points. Congrats on finding some great sheds, and keep the pictures coming.

I've got a shed that looks simuliar to the third picture you have. It is a six point it has a small double brow tine. I scores right around 70". What does the shed in the third picture score?

The fork horn has a little browtine like a tear drop but that is all .I had seen him a few times when I was bow hunting I would guess he had a 15 inch spread just glad to see he made it he is very close to the house.

That is an awesome collection of sheds. Are all of those sheds fresh from this year or are a bunch of them older. Up here in SK all of the fresh ones I find are very dark and the ones that are lighter are usually older. Either way that is an awesome pile of bone.

What a great collection of sheds, hopefully someday a will be able to post pics of my collection. Right now I dont think two sheds is considered a collection but being new to this sport and getting a late start this year I think by this time next year I will have a nice bunch of sheds to share with everyone...

Chris

Congrats on all the sheds. There are some very nice sheds. Looks like all the hours tromping you put in sure payed off with the nice sheds.

We are at 46 as of last weekend. I finally came up with a fairly decent match set. Was only a 4x5 but went 57 and 60. Tyler took one look and wasn't too worried I would beat his matched sets. Can't even make the kid sweat alittle. LOL He found 3 sheds for the weekend out of 6 found total. Just is a slow year with the deer being so spread out. Hopefully I have both days off this weekend as the boss is talking about hitting the field next Tuesday. Going to hit it hard but not looking to good that we will come close to finding 70 like we found last year or finding one that goes over 70 inches. Those are the two magic numbers to beat, but it will have to be next year. Congrats again on your great finds!!

What's the story on the real dark shed in the last pic?Did he come from a different area then the rest?I've alway's wondered what cause's some shed's to be darker then other's.Seem's like all or almost all the Canadion shed's seem to have a dark color to them, does anyone know why they darken up like that?
Great bunch of shed's Chris!!!

It has something to do with the types of trees the bucks have to rub. I think conifers cause the darker racks, and since there aren't many down here in Iowa, we tend to get the lighter colored racks.
I'm just kind of pulling this information out of the back of my brain, so correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm going to have to agree with you MB&C. Up here in Northern Sask alot of the bucks have antlers that are almost black. These deer live in stands of mixed aspen, willows and lots of spruce and pines. In the southern part of the province the deer tend to have lighter coloured racks because they tend to rub on willows and aspen trees more than anything. Like you I don't know for sure but that's what I've been told and I have no reason at all to doubt it. Personally, I love the dark racks, they look even heavier than they are.

The Dark shed is an Iowa shed. Its around 78 and change, typical. It was found in Madison County.
