The phone rang the other day and it was my older brother Bert on the line. The weather forecast was good so Bert says "Let's go shed hunting". I lifted my eyebrow because Bert has never shed hunted with me before, but I was obviously interested so plans were made to meet in the bow zone yesterday morning.

To make a long story short, we trudged through wet snow most of the day and had a great time, but the shed hunting was tough to say the least. I think we came up with 6 total in about 6 hours of shed hunting, so I guess things could have been worse!

Here's a great moment caught on the digital camera as we sat on the train tracks and had a drink of water, and Bert contemplated his first fresh shed.

Some of you know how quickly the shed hunting bug bites, and Bert was no exception. He lives in tremendous whitetail country, west of Edmonton, so a road tour seemed like a good idea on the way home. Driving through a great looking area, Bert slowed down to have a look at some trails crossing the road. I know some of you are not going to believe this, but this is what he saw just on the other side of the ditch!

Here is the matched set, an outstanding Alberta whitetail that would score well over 150 inches. The right side scores right around 70 inches and the left side scores 64. The end of the main beam was damaged in velvet and the shed ended up with a really neat looking 'crab claw', as well as a hole about an inch deep in the heavy main beam. For those of you that like dark, massive Canadian sheds, have a look at this set.

I can guarantee you that I have a new shed hunting partner for life! Good going bud, I'm looking forward to putting on quite a few more miles shed hunting with you!

Oh yea he's got the bug now. Just look at his face.Isn't it something how you get that rush every time you see an antler sticking out of the brush. I guess thats what keeps me going, just wanting that rush and to feal that antler in your hands. Good luck everybody, Buck
