View Full Version : a day to remember!
hi everone i thought i would share what happened to me on 3/10/02.location:somewhere in iowa.after beating the bush for two weekends,no sheds the deer seemed to be all spread out.so i decided to go to this huge crp feild, there in the middle, laid a 97 incher.huge five point frame with two flyers of the bay tine. i had seen this deer two years before but figured he was dead, everybody and there brother seemed to be after him.that is what makes those big ones so special, they are has smart has they are big!i picked this horn up around 10a.m. so i had a little more time to look.so i decided to go to a spot that i had went thru the weekend before.there on the first pass laid the one that everybody was after this year,a 87incher six point frame.i figured just maybe the other side was around on the next ridge over laid the match 86 incher seven point frame, with 7 to 9 inches chewed of.i found a dead buck that had shed his horns, stuck these sheds on there and come up with a spread of 22.5.net score around 194. the guy who owns this farm would shoot this deer in a heartbeat with his 270.i salute big bucks everywhere because they still live on! p.s.dont poach, sell horns or shoot dinks and there will be many more. seeya tim

Well this is a day to remember alright. I drove down to "my deer-pheasant hunting spot" only to find that farmer brown had just burned over 600 acres of switch grass! I beleive that he is going to be putting it back into crop production this year. Unfortunately our pheasant population was way down last season but you could always count on finding some roosters in this switch grass, as well as kicking up quite a few deer. I am real disappointed about this and guess I will have to be looking for different spots to place my bowhunting stands this year. Usually my boys and my father and I would be able to stay on this section for nearly half of the day hunting. Hell we usually kick out around 20 deer everytime we went in, unless of course other hunters had already been there. Well enough of my whining, I didn't however come away empty handed. I drove into the burnt area and found a couple of sheds, one was a very nice 5 pt. that was around 80 pts give or take a few for the burnt brittle tines.
