Has anyone shot the .17 Hornady? The reviews I've read sound good but don't mention noise. I'm wondering about muzzle blast and comfort of shooting without ear protection. My hearing is already bad enough.

Try www.varminthunters.com (http://www.varminthunters.com) Those guys are all over the .17HMR. Even some pics of what a .17 can and can't do when it comes to knock down/kill power. Its a very active board so you might want to check out yesterdays 5/19 topics or maybe it was 5/18 for those pictures. Anyway those guys really know what they are talking about.

My dad and I got a CZ 452 in .17. It is relativly loud but does have a little power. We shot some gallon milk jugs at 50 yds and it blew the top off about 20 ft in the air. http://www.iowawhitetail.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif What the .17 HMR really is, is a .22 mag necked down to a .17 so if you know what a .22 mag sounds like its probably around there.
