I received a call from Judd Cooney last night in which he inquired if electronic deer calls were legal to use in Iowa. He was asking about it because a friend of his makes electronic deer calls and thought that they were legal to use in Iowa. Judd said that in the hunting regulations it stated they were illegal to use for turkey but the calls were not mentioned in the section that dealt with deer.
In the IAC (Iowa Administrative Code) Chapter 106 deals with deer and in the section under Prohibited weapons and devices it reads "The use of...any mechanical conveyance or device, including electronic calls, is prohibited,..."
Since that is not spelled out in the current Iowa 2000 Hunting & Trapping Regulations booklet I thought I'd pass it along. Hopefully in next year's booklet this information will be included again.
