How do you effectively and safely apply lime in hard to reach areas. I know it is best to buy in bulk.

Depends on the amount and terrain. Have heard of people flinging shovels of lime from carts behind ATVs or buying a spreader but bulk ag lime doesn't go through them well. If it were a small area I may think about pelletized even though it will cost quite a bit more per pound.

Do I need to take any kind of precautions when applying lime? I would think there would be some health hazard to spreading by hand.

Pel lime is much easier to apply in smaller volumes, and is available alot quicker.

Pelletized lime is probably the way to go for you. It will spread out of a spinner type spreader just fine. As for anything to worry about, it is basicly harmless. Just try and keep the dust out of your eyes.
