    Thoughts on arming teachers?

I agree. Your boss isn't going to kneel down and speak to you in an encouraging tone. Best they learn how the real world works now. And I totally understand that point of view too. We were all once teenage boys and know very well how they behave lol. It's a tough thing to handle. I just...

    Thoughts on arming teachers?

I don't have a strong opinion either way in regards to teachers carrying. But am I the only one that has a problem running a drill that nobody knows about? Say an actual shooter walks into that school next Monday morning, starts shooting, and they make the active shooter announcement over the...

What do you do for a living?

I would love those hours! Would like to stay fairly close to the family farm though.

What do you do for a living?

I'm curious what everybody on IW does for a living. Do you enjoy what you do? Do you feel like it's rewarding work? Is your work/life balance okay? Did you go to school to do what you are doing now? Yesterday, I was unfortunately let go from a job I enjoyed. It was in the precision ag...

Help me pick days for 2018

I've never killed one before the 19th of November. A lot of that has to do with what the work schedule has allowed since college.

    One tough buck

My old man shot a big ole buck years ago during shotgun season like that. He was laying out in the middle of a frozen pond and obviously not all there. He was pretty sick. When they picked his head up they noticed one of his antlers wobbled considerably. His antler was just like that. Skull...

    My boys buck

I didn't notice that. Can't say I've ever seen one with as dark of hair as that one has on the brisket! Really cool.

    Late season tactics

Fwiw I've never killed a buck with a bow before the 15th of November. A lot of that might have to do with when I can hunt because of school and now work. But the last couple weeks of November is dynamite from what I've experienced.

    South Central Iowa Taxidermist

Good looking work! That turtle was cool. You've got some tough competition just a few miles north of you! I'm sure you know who haha ;)

    Horsetail/snake grass/puzzle grass

Scouring Rush is what we always called it at ISU and I would STRONGLY advise against planting it. It's hard to get rid of it once it's there and can spread very aggressively.

    Sand Creek State Park

I grew up a few miles west of Sand Creek. I've tromped miles and miles and miles of Sand Creek and haven't even gotten close to covering every inch of that place. Wild country, that much is for certain. I've never bow hunted it before. Sat on some of it once during late muzzleloader season...

    Spring Scouting Trip

You'll be fine. A lot of people are still picking up sheds at that time.

    Track ID

Same set of tracks. The 5 toes imo are double prints. My father went back this morning and looked again out of curiosity. He went to where this creek went under the bridge on the next mile north of where we stopped following them Saturday and the tracks were still going, this small creek...

    Track ID

I'm not buying in to the otter thing just yet. When I get by the home computer tonight I'd like to share a couple more pictures.

    Track ID

I don't know, it would have to be a mighty big otter with long legs and no claws. In over a mile that thing never broke stride... no belly slides, no milling around, just a steady walk. Might be an otter but I'm not convinced.

    Track ID

That could be. I would think they were way too far apart and way too big and round for an otter though. Also no visible claw marks or webbing.

    Track ID

I followed these tracks on a frozen creek for well over a mile before I gave up. They obviously were left after the last snow, which was Wednesday. I think? They're every bit of 3+ inches wide. Each stride was probably 3 feet long. I've seen bobcat tracks in the snow before, those things...

    Cape in the freezer question?

I shot a decent buck last weekend and caped it out just in case I want to shoulder mount it. I figured that at the very least whoever I take it to might want a cape. Anyway, my question is, how long will it be okay to sit in the freezer? I'm in the middle of transitioning to a new job and...
