    You tell me!

I think i would shoot bud. I just think in your scenario of them both chasing a doe he would look bigger on the hoof. I need some more wide ones for the wall.

    AWP planting?

I have a bunch of awp and would like to get some in the ground this year. What is the latest I can get it in the ground and still get some growth or am i too late? The rain i would think would push some plant dates further out this year because there is so much moisture in the soil...

    Wasting seed or not?

Do you think that it will be too late to get any growth from the turnups and brassicas then?

    Edge Feathering and bedding areas

Is it too late? I just got an accepted offer on a farm and can't do anything till I close in mid august but I want to do some things immediately once I do. Mainly create bedding areas on all south facing slopes, ridge tops and then do edge feathering on other areas. i am going to hinge cut...

    Wasting seed or not?

I was going to try a mix of brassicas, turnups, oats, and AWP. Will the brassicas shade out the oats and awp too much to make it worth mixing it in? I probably won't get in the ground until mid to late august here. I'm putting it in some CRP fields. Just going to mow it, spray it , disc it...

    Broadcasting Turnips into Corn Now???

What time of year did you try this? I would think that beans would canopy too much to let light in for the turnups.

    plot spike oats

dbl, I had fields of rye last year with very poor results. The deer just didn't care for them that much. I also had frank oats last year that dried up at the end of oct. The deer loved them when they were green but as soon as they started to dry up they stopped eating them. I am now looking...

    plot spike oats

Anyone ever used these before? I have heard that they last far, far longer into the season than any other oat. I heard it once and passed it off as some good luck someone must have had with it on one farm but since then I have heard from different credible sources about how long it lasts...

    Hinge cutting #101

Are you cutting at a certain angle when you hinge and how far through the tree?

    Spraying cedars in CRP?

Is there something that I can use to spray a bunch of red cedars in a crp field that will kill them? When would be the best time? I can't get to these very easy w/ a mower so I was going to put the back pack on and spray if i could.

    hunting land

I would also add when buying ground that you do some serious research on your neighbors. Unless you are buying a huge chunk your neighbors may make the difference in your hunting experience. Stop on by the neighbors and just ask them. I do it all the time in my line of business and most of...

    Cull bucks for sure!

Now I generally have a rule that I won't shoot anything till it reaches maturity but I think I will make an exception with these two. I can't have this going on on a farm I hunt! [/img]

Water source: secluded pond better than creek?

I think a pond would be great in dry years but past that it's just another pond that of course some deer will use regardless.

    IOWA MONSTER UPDATE

It could be a scenario that goes on every shotgun season. You follow one guy who says he has permission to hunt there and he brings 10 others with him. This is just one of the reasons I don't shotgun hunt anymore. Everybody assumes they have permission w/ out asking. Recipe for disaster.

    Brassica Letdown

I would be patient and whether it takes this year or not, I would plant it again next year. It is an awesome food source when they do start to eat it both as a kill plot and nutritional standpoint. Dwilk, just out of curiousity how well did the wintergreens stand up for you in the snow and...

    Brassica Letdown

Sometimes it just takes deer a year or two to get used to the brassicas. Do you have lots of other food available in your area? Sometimes it takes deer as a last resource to eat it. When they do finally start to eat it they will always eat it. I would also add some turnups to the mix of...

    Heater Body Suit

What I like about the HBS is that since it comes off the shoulders that it would make for a much more efficient bow shot because you don't have nearly as much clothing getting in the way. When you so much clothing on I just don't believe we are nearly as efficient archers because we practice...
