Default they are dropping

It is smokepole season in wisconsin, and this last saturday i shot what i thought was a nice doe. Well when i turned her over to gut her i was a little bit suprised. She had something she shouldn't. I went back to look at her head and she was a he that had already shed his antlers. this was on saturday 12-3-05. boy this seems early to me, sorta made me nervous. he is in the basement de-icing so i can cut, so i am not sure of any internal injuries yet but nothing on the outside. Has anybody shot a antlerless this early before? any ideas? anyway now i have to start looking for sheds. yeayeayea

Well that's too bad that you shot a buck when you thought it was a doe! Thanks for the information though! I hope that the number of bucks shot during the late rifle season here in Iowa is minimal! My fear is that some bucks that have already shed will be shot, hopefully this isn't something that will be common. That is one of the downfalls of the late rifle season.....I guess we will soon see how it turns out.

Wow, are these stressed deer that are exposed to heavy hunting pressure or low quality food sources? Not good.

Could be exactly what Travis is saying or injured deer fighting the infection. Time will tell.

Man that is early Tip-up. I expect to see them dropping here before Christmas of course that isn't too far out of the norm.

The group that shotgun hunts the place I bowhunt found a fresh one. Talked to Joe Meder and he has had three come in with one side pulled off and one come in with both sides off. Could be a bad year for a late doe season.

Tuesday evening I had a deer standing in a field not far from the road. I was moving and thought I was seeing things. Looked like a buck with no antlers. Thought iwas seeing things. Maybe it was maybe it wasn't.
