Default Last Weekend

What did you guys see this weekend? I only hunted Sunday and I saw does in the evening. I got drawn on a yearling but with the arrow arc, I would have hit a twigg. I figured that she would have been great jerkey meat. I have also seen many new scrapes and a few rubs. We actually set a camera up on 1 of 3 scrapes (within 30 yards of each other) so I will probably have some big buck pictures soon. Also, check this out to see if it matches so far:

Did a rattling sequence around 5:30 last night and a minute later, 2 does came in. One minute later, a small 8 point comes in and starts checking out the does. Fawn takes off and mom goes right past me at 6 yards. Small 8 point follows mom past me...at 6 yards. One minute later, another 8 pointer (14 inch inside) shows up and goes to where doe was originally standing. Then follows her trail past my stand...at 6 yards!!! Rest of the night it was very quiet. I was just hoping the next size bigger was going to show.

Can't wait for the next three weeks!!!!

Went to NW Wisconsin on Thurs and Friday. The temps were cold, thrity for a high lows in the 20's. Could have shot baldies on every hunt and they were feeding real heavy in the Ag areas probably due to the cold weather. Buck sign was poor and I did not see a buck in 4 sits.

On Sunday night, I saw a nice 3 year old in WC Wisconsin which I would have shot if he would have came into range. He was walking the edge of the woods along an alafala field about 30 min. before legal shooting hours. He made a scape and veered off away from me.

On another note a friend on mine shot a nice one on Saturday morning that was grunted in.

Its just startin in my view. If you can hit the right buck you could score but I have not seen any seeking or chasing by bucks yet though.

Very slow. I'm hoping it's the calm before the storm. Lots of Farm work going on where I hunted. Cattle in spots where they weren't, corn being picked, ect. I went out Sunday morning and what a surprise. Got to the draw where my stand is and the farmer had taken a chainsaw to every small tree in the CRP draw. It's all grass now. Bad thing was, there was 5 feet of brush and thorn bush piled up by my tree. I had to fight through it all to climb up. The brush was piled all over the sides of the draw, so he wasn't picking on me, but I have a feeling that may be why I only saw one small 8 and it wasn't stepping foot into the draw. I hope next weekend is better.

I have yet to see a shooter out in the daylight. I have been seeing does, and lots of buck sign. They are really starting to make scrapes and rubs, but I think it is all done at night. I tried rattling over the weekend with no success.

1 1/2 year old bucks and a few does out running around yesterday. They are starting to stay out a little later in the morning and showing up earlier before dark. A fair amount of scrape activity beginning to show up. Watched a 1 1/2 year old buck make a rub on a small sapling right at first light. Hopefully the bigger stuff starts moving before too long.

Very windy where I hunted on the ridges, saw several groups of does bedded in low places. Nothing shootable, have not seen any bucks chasing does yet. Things should heat up next week.

Sounds like people have been seeing alot of buck sign but only does. This holds true for other guys I have talked to recently. I also took my 9 year old sister out tonight to a field and a patch of woods by our house just to look around with only the Primos buck roar and a set of rattling antlers. We spooked up a pair of 1 1/2 year old bucks after bringing them in with a rattle not knowing they were there. Well, I grunted to them and they came within 40 yards. To give sis a little fun, I had her rattle and the bucks came RUNNING 5 yards away to see what was going on. She thought that was pretty cool. Hopefully, the action gets more and with bigger deer by the end of the week (I can only hunt Friday because I am in a wedding over the weekend). We'll see what happens.

Some good bucks will go down this week, but from the looks of things it will be a solid 10 days before the chasing and rutting by the big boys begins. I saw around 20 does tonight and only 1 small buck, Sat. morning had one small 8 come in and that was the only buck I saw. This snow they are callling for this weekend may get a few more big ones up.
