A long time coming

Well to be honest it has been a long couple of years since anything has gone right in the deer woods for me. Lots of encounters and blown oppurtunities and even a picture in my mind i will never forget of a giant 9 point running away with 28 inches of arrow hanging out of his neck.

2011 was bound to be better then the previous year(I Hoped). With a busy summer with not much time to run trail cameras, I put a couple of cameras over some scrapes at the end of september/early october. Low and behold there were some good bucks around.

Fast forward to October 23. I was on my way down to the farm and checked the wind on my phone with the weatherbug app. Wind according to my stupid phone was out of the north, which was not what i wanted for the stand i wanted to hunt. So i decided not to risk educating too many deer and went to an old reliable stand option.

I got in the tree at about 6:05 and waited for light. Not much went on for the first few minutes of shooting light. I thought i heard something behind me and stood up in the stand and turned facing the tree to have a look around. Nothing. So after standing for a while i decide to turn around and look back towards the field. Oh hell, 30 yards away standing broadside in my shooting lane is a what appears to be a good buck. lots of stuff went on in my head, wind (according to weatherbug) should have been blowing straight toward him, however i could feel a light coolness hit my face. Now my bow is still on its hanger and the buck suddenly moves on out of my shooting lane and what i thought was gone for good. Frantically i grab my grunt tube and give the softest grunt i could. The buck stopped and looked around for the sound. Acouple seconds go by and i grunted again. here he comes on a string! Now I probably should have grabbed my bow before i grunted but what fun would that be? I had to grab my bow, clip my release on the string and somehow get drawn without getting busted. Well i still dont know how i did it but i got drawn with him at 7 steps from the tree and released the jackhammer. My shot was off the mark and hit him in the spine, dropping him in his tracks. One more well placed shot and he was down for the count.

After losing a great buck last year it feels like a million pounds have been lifted off my shoulders. Good luck to the rest of you with tags to fill!!!!

Nice one Gorilla. Congrats again.

Thanks to your wife for posting the pictures, I'm surprised you know how to text.

Sweet buck, congrats to you. I bet even though you were a bit off mark, you sure didn't mind the NO TRACKING & wondering- that's awesome!

Giant buck! First thing that came to my mind was how'd you get that euro done so fast? haha I've never got them that clean boiling... and I've tried adding all sorts of stuff to help. Congrats on a great buck!

Ghost taught me the tricks of the trade. Boil for an hour or so( toss back a few blueberry pops) and then blast the hell out of it with a power washer.:way:

Love that rack and way to stick with your gut and hunt the stand you wanted to hunt. That's gotta feel good. Congrats..
