It's right around 22 acres. We established around 5 acres of a pollinator prairie blend. We also put a couple acres in sunflowers that once the sunflowers get established we let whatever weed/grass come up under them. There's also a couple acres of clover. The rest is timber, and pasture I...
I'm in year 4 of turning a cattle farm into wildlife habitat. Since I put in prairie in 2021 I would see/hear pheasants a handful of times a year. I've been seeing/hearing them everyday for a couple months. The work seems to be paying off.
That was my thinking. I did a research paper in college on CWD, and all the studies I read through the conclusions were inconclusive. The sample sizes are all really small, and depends on post mortem diagnosis. What they do know is there are 2-3 different types of CJD. The 1 they believe is...
I wish he provided the citations for the claims in his article. I'm going to have to go searching for info. about the natural barrier preventing CWD from transmitting deer to man. That's the 1st I've heard anyone claim that.
If this passed my county would drop forest reserve before the ink dried. My 23 acres is all taxed as residential since I took all agriculture off it, and the only thing I plant is for wildlife. The only thing keeping my taxes under $10k a year is 8 acres of forest reserve.

I would have more land and my neighbors' would be rich because I finally caved and paid them the outrageous numbers they want. Other than land I would be upgrading and getting more equipment.
I'm with ya. I've never bought my landowner any sex tag only a couple anterless tags, and in 26 years of deer hunting I've killed 2 bucks in one year once. I've had several multi year periods between shooting bucks. It also kind of irritates me when people call an any sex tag a buck tag. Iowa...
Some light at the end of the tunnel that was this crappy fall. The 3 biggest bucks made it through shotgun season. I had a couple other good ones show up during the rut that hopefully stick around. I'll leave cams up for another month, and hopefully some more show up.
Increasing hunter participation is the same old tired line every lobbyist uses to push this crap to increase the bottom line for their company. The only thing that has increased participation over the last couple decades was the pandemic shutdowns. Now that those are over participation is...
