On the topic of tree tubes… what would chew off the top an Apple tree that is 12” below the top of a tree tube?
We used a tree tube for the first time last week on a young apple tree. This spring it looks like it is doing well. Except that the top looks like it has been chewed off. The top of...
Buckbrush / Coralberry. Our timber is full of it. Not an invasive and is native to Iowa. Doesn’t hurt much, but have seen when we open up the timber or prescribed fire, other forbs will grow in it’s place.
Thanks, guys. I am going 25lb alfalfa and 5lb timothy for two of the acres (that we’ll use for my dad’s horses). Thicker stand for thinner stalks and better palatability. The other two acres will be 100% alfalfa. Will include some black oats as a nurse crop. Will see how it comes out. :-)

Nice! We transplanted about 30 to a road screen 2 weeks ago. We weren’t able to pull them out as large as yours. Nice job!

I always add a bit of molasses.

I just downloaded a template from Iowa State and used it as a base: https://www.extension.iastate.edu/agdm/wholefarm/html/c2-16.html It’s worked for me.

Agree. Throwing more money at education hasn’t helped. Removing DEI policies, reducing teachers union influence and crazy federal requirements to transfer the real decision making to the local school board would be moves in the right direction.

Just got an electronic caller. Don’t have a thermal scope. Have not had success with calling yet. Any tips for a beginning coyote hunter? Best source for step by step videos?

We’ve been working to remove MFR in our timber with help from our EQIP program. Have tried lots of things: Foiler with Gly, basel spray with Tri+Deisel mix. (Sorry, I don’t have a good membory for how much it covered). My current favorite is to do a prescribed fire in Feb/March, and then come...
