What was your very first foodplot experience?

Yep. You get to a point where you think you have it figured out and know a thing or two and boom!!!! You find out there’s still a lot to learn.

    Pond bank herbicide

I believe Diquat is made for pond weeds and around ponds. It a “nicer” version of Paraquat.

    Spraying clover and alfalfa?

I would spray separately. Pretty sure the label says Cleth works better when not crank mixed. Many will disagree with me and that’s fine but I wouldn’t mow. The plant needs to take the chemical in and more leaf surface will allow more chemical to get to the roots. The roots are the same size...

What was your very first foodplot experience?

It’s probably around 1980. I had noticed that a lot of rabbits would come to my dad’s garden. I went and bought a bag of pea seeds from our local hardware store and planted a couple of plots in the woods to shoot rabbits with my BB gun. A cop saw me coming out of the woods with the rake a must...

    How much rain ? ☔️

Thought it usually rained right after it got cut. That’s what seems to happen to our guys around here.

    Persimmon trees/seeds

Just look for coyote poop in the fall. If persimmons are around, every pile will have seeds in it.

    How much rain ? ☔️

I’m about ready to say enough for now. But down here, you’re only ever a couple of weeks away from a drought. Congrats on the rain everyone. I knew it was very dry up there.

    How much rain ? ☔️

Very wet down in middle Georgia after a very dry April. We have had over 3” in the last week and half. It’s raining now with more on the way tonight and tomorrow

    Glyphosate

Find where the farmers buy it. Down here in Georgia, 2.5 gallons of power max pro is $55.00

    Thermal Drones for deer surveys

Thermal does work better at night. Darker objects tend to absorb heat during the day even when it’s cooler outside. But while those objects will show a white hot, it’s a duller white hot than an actual living critter. You can actually put your hand on a tree and see a heat signature after you...

    Mobile No-Till Setup

I spoke to a Great Plains rep about them. They kind of goofed up. The way they made them, they set way back off the 3 point lift arms so they still require a large tractor. The 5’ model suggest a 70 hp. The 6’ model was designed differently and suggest a 60 hp. Kind of silly to make a 5’ model...

    Soybean row spacing and population

Ok. Noob question. When yall give a population amount for planting, how does that equate to lbs per acre? I have a 8’ conventional drill. I plan on planting at 7.5” rows to try and compete with browse pressure.

    Whitetail Institute Alfalfa Rack?

Their seeds are very good quality but you’re paying for that Buck on a Bag. You can mix your own a lot cheaper. Alfalfa does better as a stand alone crop.

    A decent deer trail.

If that was down here in Georgia, a trail like that would have a lot of hog tracks in it. Mostly hogs actually.
