Great buck, huge step back. What gives?

I finally got a chance to post an update. Showtime showed up very regularly on camera in October. Same pattern as last year. Zero pics on 5 cameras out from late June scattered all over the farm. He finally showed up on one camera so I focused the cameras and ended up with a ton of pics and...

Great buck, huge step back. What gives?

I finally got what I was hoping for in confirmation that this guy was still alive and well. Now I'm hoping to make it so he is alive and well on the living room wall. Had another nice 10 with an already broken brow tine show up too, no such thing as too many!

Great buck, huge step back. What gives?

Kudos to all those with the sharp eyes. This guy is not the deer I thought he was when I posted originally. He's a wide, short buck who actually lost a little bit from last year. Looks like he had some sort of minor injury in velvet, he might get a pass just out of curiosity to see what he looks...

Great buck, huge step back. What gives?

Well I'm liking the tune you guys are singing. Fingers crossed that this is another buck altogether, and that Showtime shows up and resembles what he was last year. I'll be very interested to see how much this critter puts on in August and will try to post pics so everyone can see what the...

Great buck, huge step back. What gives?

It is possible that he's older than I thought, but no one had pics of anything like that in years prior and we all run enough trail cameras that I'd think someone would have gotten him. I'm only thinking it is him because bucks around my place that are that flat coming off the skull with that...

Great buck, huge step back. What gives?

I've had pics of this buck the last 3 years between myself and a couple neighbors. Pretty sure he is 4.5 in 2016, 5.5 last year when he was just ridiculous, and should be 6.5 this year. I had video of him in December last year looking fine. I've thought by first week of August antler growth...

    Cull Buck, thoughts?

I can see both sides of this. I would fall on the side of.....unless I am sure he is fully mature, I will pass and opt for one of the fully mature deer on the property. Yearlings disperse, the babies this guy makes aren't going to live on your farm anyways. Personally I think if you have a...

    A few bucks thus far...

I think that 10 is a 4.5. Looks deceiving because he is stretched out urinating and working that scrape. I don't think I would pass him unless he looked really lacking in mass in person. Pics can be deceptive on mass unless they are really close. Best of luck!

    age and score

Sorry Sorry guys, work and life kept me out of here for a long time. Never did have this buck officially scored, but the taxidermist had him at 168 and some change. Don't even remember anymore for sure. Saw someone had asked and just thought I'd answer....better late than never right?

Big 10 and a new one

I'm in the camp that says the wide one is mature. His backline and body don't look young to me. Both are great deer that would look good on the wall. :)

    Opinions on age and potential

I remember reading somewhere that this is more common in hilly country, and has to do with deer preferences when bedding. When sleeping the lower side antler gets increased blood flow. Can't remember though if it was something reputable or some bs posted somewhere. So there's my disclaimer.

    Another "Age Him" post

Nothing about that deer looks old, no sway back at all. I definitely would not shoot him just to cull him out, but I would if you would be happy with him as is. I shot a monster last year, by far the best one I've ever gotten, and may ever get. He was a basic main frame 8 that grossed near...
