The scenario:

Small isolated patch of city timber (~10-40 acres) vs. Large contiguous fenced ranch (1000-3000 acres)

I would say the fence is not the true indicator of how difficult the hunting is. Obviously, the constraint of the fence is physically different the the constraint of the citys pressure inward on the ground but there is a strong correlation and should be considered.

I think it all comes down to hunting pressure and deer per. sq mile. If the pressure is low and the numbers are equal I would say the odds are in favor in the small peice of city ground.

Throw in a 30 acre food plot or the only watering hole and a tower blind over it in a fenced hunt you are obviously sporting the advantage but I was not considering these forms of lures. -Which could also hold true on many large chunks of private ground here in Iowa.
