I have heard the saying " I would rather have the right 80 than the wrong 800" and I could not agree more. I wish I could have 6000 acres just for the simple fact that you would have a ton of options, but with that said I think you can kill a giant every year off of 50 acres. The reason I say this is that I personally have access to a 59 acre piece that is a mix of corn and a sweet river bottom funnel. I leave this property alone until November when the giants are on their feet. The last 3 bucks that have come off this property (in 4 years) have gone 187", 166"slick8, and a 195". I know this is not the norm but, if you have a piece that you leave alone all year put some food on, and manage the herd, I think it can be done on small tracts. I will admit that the key factor on this being so good is there is no shotgun hunting, so the farm does not get touched until November and shed season. In my opinion, every farm in Iowa has potential for a giant as long as its managed properly. Perfect example is what HUNTYAK is doing with his farm that he posted in the Harvest forum. Management works if you have the patience.
