I bought my only brand new bow from Fin & Feather in 1986. Used it until I bought a used bow in 2004. Bought a "newer" used bow in 2012. I wouldn't consider any of them "high end" but they work for me. I would say that there were HUGE improvements from '86 to '04 and wished I had upgraded sooner. 
Somebody mentioned Halon so had to look it up, sounds like a Halon 7 might be something to pick up used.
