This morning I noticed asparagus is poking through. Couple weeks to a month earlier than normal. Usually use asparagus as an omen of morels, but I don’t know this year. Not even turkey season yet.

Seen a few gobblers doing their posturing behind the house yesterday. Thought to myself...did I miss turkey season. Nope. And then today comes ..feels like 30.

Went for a walk in the timber this afternoon and came home with a wee tick crawling on my hand. Need to treat my turkey hunting clothes.

They are really bad this year. I've already had 4 tick bites just doing yard work, very small and undetectable until the itching starts. Guess I'll have to treat all my cloths with Sawyers!
It seems like everyone says they're really bad this year, for the last 5 years...

Why the increase in ticks?

My guess is the lack of a brutal winter. When we did have a cold snap, there was snow on the ground insulating it from the frigid temps. Not a fan of -20F below but might trade it for ticks.

The last several years I have seen the first ticks in Feb and the numbers obviously increase as warmer days tick by(pun intended).
I've been out in the woods and grasses quite a bit this spring and have yet to see 1.
