Decided to use up some comp time from snow season and hit the woods with the turkey whisperer himself, Mr. Walker. Headed out bright and early this morning, got to our blind and had at least a couple of birds gobbling fairly close. As the sun rose we could tell one was on the ground and he was coming our way. As the gobbles got closer and closer, it seemed as though this hunt was going to be a slam dunk….and then a couple of the many deer around us decided to “help out”. The deer were not fans of the turkey decoys…snorting, stomping, and running around apparently puts a turkey on edge. At 75 yards and closing he decided he had enough and turned around and started heading back the way he had come from, but slowly. Some sweet turkey talk from Curtis and the bird angled into our field. Slowly but surely the bird worked his way into the decoys and I put him down with a 15 yard chip shot. 25 lbs, 11” beard, 1” spurs
It was a bittersweet ending to the 2025 turkey season as I hunted twice, for maybe an hour and killed two beautiful toms.
Curtis got some sweet footage of the shot, I’ll let him post that, as I can’t figure out how.
