Other idea: Awhile back a buddy had a couple of his motorcycles that he had as a kid stolen out of his dad’s building. He immediately called the cops and they showed up and did an adequate job. Yet he knew he would never see his childhood bikes again.
Him and his wife went on Facebook. They posted pics of the bikes and posted rewards in excess of the value of the stolen items. In no time they had a lead. A guy who is actually also a burglar reported exactly who to check. Cops went there and a treasure trove of stolen items were recovered.
This plan can be adapted. But the better plan is get to figure out how it can be that you establish a communication relationship with folks who know what the poachers are up to. I would say no one hates a poacher more than another poacher. What motivates people to cooperate? Well it would help if they like you better than they like the guy shooting deer out of his truck window. Relationships matter. Maybe someone that walks both sides of the line has a reason to “get even” with a poacher. Maybe it’s reward money. Maybe it’s because you helped him change a tire or pulled him out of the ditch. The best motivator is idealism though. There are people who are idealists that know about criminal activity. They are a goldmine. They just want someone to tell that makes them feel appreciated for their efforts.
Never miss a chance to visit with another person. Even if it is someone you might not completely care for. Build up rapport over weeks months or years. Find commonalities. When the time is right, let them know what you are looking for.
