Mid Contract CRP herbicide-what and what rate

Oddly, the NRCS doesn't provide much guidance but suggested Clethidem at the lowest rate for mid contract maintenance. A light rate of gly was the ticket for contracts in Missouri. What are you guys spraying in Iowa? Burning isn't an option for this year.

For MO anyways:

My understanding is they're looking for more early successional plants.

I don't know why they don't just nuke the $hit in strips and be done with it for a couple years then rotate to the other strips in future years....on wait....it''s the implementation of the goverment rules....

I’d run gly & ams on cool seasons either in spring - before the warm seasons are greened up. Or in fall when warm seasons go dormant. MOST stands have some junk cool seasons in them.

New farm with mid contract maintenance due this year on 4 acres of it, so my goal for this year is to remain in compliance. I like Skip's idea but the spraying has to be done by Sept 30. NRCS suggested mowing it so I'll probably do that and then spray either gly or Cleth.

The “real answer” IMHO- gov has no clue what they are asking for and why. The offices usually don’t know what to spray and why. That’s why- I take my own approach which actually gets positive results. Smoke those cool seasons the way I want to & get the gov their invoice to check the box.

Id follow skips advice. Check the boxes and call it a day.

That rate is much more in line with imazapic rate. 5 to 8 oz of gly wouldn't do anything. But if that is what they told you, make sure you got it in writing and go to work and cash the check.

That's why BH83's question about what do you hope to accomplish is a good question. If it's just to satisfy the Mid Mgmt requirement... 5oz of gly per acre is a winner..
