Badger

Did he let you pet him? They are very friendly.
Ha! :) Badger story incoming...Years and years ago I was fishing with my brother in a small creek. We were only 10 or 12 years old at the time. I was actually in the creek at the time while he was up on the bank above me as we moved upstream. Due to the height of the steep bank, I could only see the upper half of his body and sometimes I couldn't see him at all. No big whoop...so far.

Suddenly, he starts running around and yelling at the top of his lungs. Again, I can't see the lower half of his body, nor the ground that he is running around on. There was a big commotion and I was quite puzzled about what he was doing up there. After 10 or 15 seconds of tearing up he jumps off of the high bank into the creek with me and he looked like he had seen a ghost. He then proceeds to tell me that a badger was chasing him around. Thankfully, it didn't catch up to him and bite him.

Don't mess with badgers!!

I didn’t know there were badgers in Iowa. Until I did. And it was at that moment I regretted setting my bow down just moments ago.

They like chicken if you're looking for home warming gifts. Here's one coming back to look for the 5 that survived. It made about 2 dozen disappear one night. Tried trapping, but no luck. I assume it cached them all under the coop...there was an amazing pile of dirt that it left. Once we got the coop badger proof we had to quickly move on to air strike prevention. Keeping chickens sucks.

If you can find where their holes are they’re the easiest animal on the planet to catch. No bedding required , don’t worry about scent.

Do they respond to calls ? This one is in a small area surrounded by crop . The den is there too ? I don’t even know what the rule on hunting or trapping is in Minnesota. I’d have to check .

They’re probably not in season, it wouldn’t surprise me if they were curious enough to poke their head out if you called.
I had a friend of a friend that claimed he used a 250 gallon ICB full of water to flood a den once. Said it came out within 30 seconds. I’m 99.9% positive that’s not legal.

My grandpa always told a story about digging them out of their dens. They dug until the growling and snarling hit a certain volume, then they would back off, and shoot it when it came charging out. I don't know the trial and error involved in that technique, but he has all his fingers and toes.

He had a large one mounted that I was always thought looked pretty cool.
