    Opening day

Hunted in the rain Friday - it was coming down HARD. Deer were moving though, saw over 30 Does, a couple small bucks is all.

    letter from the DNR

Yep - filled mine out for Friday, Saturday and Sunday that I hunted. I'm wondering about reporting the number of deer seen though, as I'm SURE that one group of deer (20 +) is the SAME group I saw every night hunting. They are always feeding in the same area. I didn't notice anything on the...

    Running Harvest Total.

My hunting buddys son harvested a young one during youth season. And already at his age the 'post tag filling depression' has set in.

    Shooting Low?

Good Luck BagginBucks - you'll be hooked. The tough part is gonna be waiting to go recover your deer after you hit it......WAIT for it....wait for it....... Buddy of mine was so excited and ran up to a nice 8 pt he had shot. Buck probably would have bled out and died where he fell, but my...

    An Alaskan September week day

You guys ARE killing me with those fish pics.....I love to fish as much as hunt. Here's all I can muster with some midwest stocked rainbows we caught over labor day. http://www.iowawhitetail.com/photopost/data/528/1807Trout1.jpg

    a double

[ QUOTE ] I have no idea why they hung around so close to me for that long but I thought it was cool. If they were in season I know I could have taken them both with one shot. [/ QUOTE ] Might seem kind of crazy, but I read an article about animal ESP.....basically gave examples such as this...

    Please Read!

I'm in, had to get in for the big buck contest. Doubt I can compete with the monsters I've seen on this site, but always hoping some 'Forest Gump' deer might bumble in range.

What's the longest shot you have made?

Ghost nailed it - targets are one thing, and drawing back on a nice buck from your tree stand that you've been sitting in all morning in the cold is another......I like em to get in under 20 yds....

    Urban road kill

Nice Buck allright, always too bad to see them hit by a vehicle.

    To P or not to P ...

I've read some interesting articles on this subject. The jist of one article was that deer did not necessarily equate humane urine scent with danger...just that is was a mammal, and that deer didn't necessarily spook from the smell of every mammal urine they came across (coyote, fox, dogs, etc)...

    First bow kill

Congratulations, that first one with a bow IS something to remember. Nice picture too ! That certainly will make for some tasty steaks.

    Where's the boots???

I store my boots in a bag too, but I also douse them with HS Scent-a-way powder, that stuff is incredible. I've actually shared that with some non-hunting friends who had issues with their sneakers....it's better than any foot powders they sell for stinky shoes.

    Big Buck Contests - Overboard?

Why wasn't he shooting squirrells - ha. Some good points on this topic, my biggest fear with the high payouts is the potential to increase poaching. That aside, I could never understand why any individual would purchase a rack to display as their own. The trophy for me is the fact I harvested...

    Back from Wyoming

Congrats! They do make interesting mounts, I've actually had people ask me if I went to Africa. But I got mine the 'easy' way @ 200 yds with a rifle. More of a trophy with a bow - way to go.
