I've never noticed that reaction to just a neutralizing scent.
I neutralize everything, and then use the Fresh Earth Scent wafers. Multiple times I've watched deer sniffing, and I know they smell that Earth, but never has it spooked them.
There's another movie called "My Summer Story" with the same characters.
Charles Grodin is the father, and a couple of the younger Culkin brothers are the boys.
Movie is shot in a similar fashion and narrated with the voice over.

This was always the first hunting season I looked forward to in Wyoming on Sept. 1st.
