I've been seeing bucks tending does and some slight antler play on camera. Nothing aggressive as of yet but they're definitely seeking more.

Finally saw some bucks on camera starting to follow does. Still holding together and had a little antler testing but no hard pushing or shoving. Time to get out there

From what I've read the weight is usually more for liability purposes. Most will hold much more per the engineering standards that are put forth. Lots can hold 2-3 times the amount rated for...although I'd never test that theory lol

Calm does = calm bucks so if I get the chance I usually go for them.

Nice! I joined the same boat last month out by Winterset. 22 acres just south of the middle river surrounded by 100s of acres of woods and some CRP. I'd say get out and put some cameras up and just hunt it this fall. See where the deer move and plant some stands. I have the only open till...

Same out at my place in Winterset. Seems like they're sticking in the woods right now and not venturing out into the fields as much. Tons of does, few 2.5 year olds wandering out from time to time.

I hunt Thanksgiving time for that reason too. All the big dominant guys are still going strong where the smaller guys have tired out. Last two years I've seen my biggest deer Thanksgiving morning.

Early season is definitely cold fronts and rain. I got my archery tag filled in October last year after rain moved out in the early a.m. Deer were moving like crazy. If all goes well with closing this next week I'll have 21 acres out by Winterset that's attached to woods for the next mile and...
