That's not true. I've hunted from blinds for several years. If you hunt in an area that has other hunters you may want to hang an orange vest or something on the blind or nearby to warn others of your presence.
Either that or lay real low to the ground ... ...
I agree Ghost ... slobs poaching our bucks is bad enough but it feels a little worse when we have an outfitter encouraging his client's to break the law so he can profit from it!
STEEL CREEK OUTFITTERS should be on every ethical hunters blacklist!!!!
QDMer ... Keep your focus on the does and bring a camera along to video the bucks that aren't quite wall hangers yet. Just think how cool it will be to have video of the huge bucks on your wall, before they were shooters.
Great post ... we all need to thank the men and women in the military that protect our freedom. Think how lucky we are to be home and able to enjoy this hunting season while there are many Amercians serving our country and families giving the ultimate sacrifice.
Great advice guys, clover is the best way to go.
If the weeds are not too thick you might be able to get away with simply frost seeding on top of the snow in Feb or March without mowing it. Then buy a hand sprayer and when the forbs(weeds) start growing again spray it by hand with a...
Well said guys and thanks for the articles Larry. Passing on young bucks and shooting more does is QDM that every Iowa hunter can participate in, wether they own ground are not. Like 150 Class says, it's cheap, easy, and probably the most effective part of QDM.

Iowa's deer herd is a long ways from the carrying capacity of the land, even in our parks, but I also know most Iowa hunters wouldn't want the deer numbers to reach that point because the quality of our deer would suffer greatly, and I don't think the general public would...
It's some pictures of a dead cat that was killed prior to the mule having a little fun with it.
I bet the pictures were taken somewhere near Albia, Iowa and it was just an Ia DNR cougar release gone bad!
150 Class ... Good Genetics + Good Food + Age = Herd Health = Big Bucks
I don't believe it is possible to consistently have big bucks on a property without a healthy deer herd. Iowa has had many deer grow to big buck status by accident and the fact that we do have good food and good genetics...
Saskguy, you are probably right about QDM in western Canada. It's an easy place for a deer to die, or a human for that matter, and QDM as it's practiced in the midwest is probably not as applicable to that area.
Two orphaned buck fawns in Iowa probably stand an excellent chance of surviving...
Larry I also planted some chicory I got from Naylor Seed. Last March I cleared off about 1/4 acre area in my timber with a chainsaw that had a south facing slope, burned it, and then when it was still black I broadcast 1# chickory/2# Ladino clover and 600# Pell Lime. The lime was for the...
I planted 50# wheat/50#rye/10# Austrian Winter Peas on a 1 acre food plot in August. The peas are about 6 inches tall and the deer are completely removing them from the foodplot. I think next year I'll plant them a little heavier.
Has anyone else had experience with Austrian Winter Peas in...
