    How many registered QDMA members?????????

While the ideas surrounding QDM lean towards the harvesting of mature animals, you should always set your goals according to what you want to harvest. If you are happy with a 120 class animal, then QDM to you is pasing on smaller yearling bucks with the hope of them growing into the kind of...

    Amish Deer Hunters

Unless you know them personally, I would hesitate to group them and their hunting styles. There are Amish and Menonite in this state. One Amish gentleman brought in the largest shed measured at the Classic, 5 point side in the high 80's. He knew exactly what he had. The first thing he said...

    Food plot tip

When we hunt over standing corn late in the year, we drive the truck through it to knock it down. Really helps with the sight issue. We will drive in and out from the stand essentially making shooting lanes from the stand.

    QDM magizine

The magazine is included with the membership to the QDMA. Membership is $25 per year and is available online. We will also have memberships available when the Iowa City and Des Mones branches get organized. It is a great magazine directed at management more so than hunter stories and hunting...

    Advice

Rape, as it is called, is in the Brassica family. It is similar to cabbage, with a thick stalk and large leaves. It works well but sometimes it takes the deer a while to really key in on it. If left it will eventually rot and smell bad, but that rarely happens as the deer keep it eatten down...

    Welcome to the QDM forum

I want to second Big Timber's post and hope that this new forum provides help to all of you with questions about what you can do to help your deer herd. Getting QDM on the ground in Iowa is VERY exciting. We all know what this state is capable of and with a little work, things will only get...

    Melanistic Buck

Watched a melanistic doe several years back in the Boone area. Was really neat to see. She had twins with her that were normal color. Not quite as black as the one in the pic though. Really cool to see.

Best or luckiest shot ever made..

Mine was gun hunting when I was 17. Walking across a CRP field to get to the woods a 130" buck jumped up at my feet. Without even thinking I swung and fired and the deer dropped. I walked up to it and didn't see a bullet hole. I rolled him over and still no hole. I then noticed a small spot...

    pros hunting in IOWA

Getting paid to do what you love is the best thing going in my book. Call them what you want but most of those guys know what they're doing, whether they pay to be in the tree or not. As for guys like Milo, he is exactly as you said, an exhibitor. He doesn't claim to have any vast knowledge...

How do you cook your bird???

Got creative last year and made Kielbasa and Brats out of my birds. Added pork loin trimmings and ground it up, added spices and stuffed. All done at home. I swear it was some of the best eating I've ever had. Can't wait to do it again this spring. Cooked the brats at a cookout on the lake...

What do you do for a living?

Degree in Wildlife Biology but am currently working my fiance through dental school here in IC. Work as a lab rat making synthetic DNA that is used by research companies around the world. I'm a night shifter, four tens and a four day weekend is nice. By the way, I actually listened to all of...

    Wildlife Biologists

If you want to do any of the "fun" stuff regarding wildlife biology, you can plan on at least going after a Masters degree. I have chosen to work outside of my wildlife biology degree to ensure that I can live above the poverty level and that is because I only have a 4 year degree. If you stay...

    Who has stalked a buck?

This year while walking in to one of my stands I came around a corner and saw a doe facing away from me about 75 yards away in some tall grass. I immediately snuck over to some cover and watched. She melted back in to the thick stuff and I did a quick sequence on the horns to see if she had...

    QDMA membership????

I am a member of the Quality Deer Management Association and strongly support their cause. Any of you out there who are interested in "management" and more importantly, growing bigger bucks, check out the web site and join up. It's well worth the money.
