When it it too late to plant corn for plots?

Considering the rain last night is going to cause the river to come out of it's banks AGAIN, it looks like we will be switching to beans. Or maybe turnips if this rain doesn't quit soon. Corn for cover??? Don't need that where we are at, got plenty of it!

When it it too late to plant corn for plots?

Any experience with how late you can plant corn if it is just going to be left standing for plots? I assume farmers want to get it in as early as possible so it has time to dry for harvest, but can you still get decent ears if you wait till mid-june or so? The river is in some of our fields...

    Cereal Grains and cover crops

eiowaarcher - if you are not the one putting the corn in, you may what to check with the farmer as he may not appreciate the extra vegetation in the spring. It grows tall and quick in the spring!

    JD 7000 planter chain question

The seed box driver chain gave up the ghost on our planter today. Does anyone know if Theisens or a similar place stocks them, or am I stuck with getting one on line? I plan to call the local JD dealer tomorrow also. Thx.

    I gots a '85 cj-7. Runs great. Sort of a cross between a quad and a truck 33s, 2.5 inch skyjacker, 360, and a T-18. $3,500. Cheaper than a decent quad.

Late "Anterless" Season Opinions, ROUND 2!

Most land owners are farmers. Most of those farmers want the deer shot. The farmers are losing money due to deer. Those farmers who want the deer shot do not care if they are does, fawns, fawns with spots, button buck, shed bucks, or antlered buck (does that cover them all???) For them, if it...

This years dry conditions and scent

I seemed to get busted more this year than the past. Doubt the drought had any impact, not sure how it would??? Funny thing is that my archery buck came from directly down wind. Luck of the draw I guess.......

IC - you missed my point about the challenge of the hunt. It was challenging when I started hunting 30 years ago, then became a joke/easy with any weapon. It was buck only, by the way. Now folks complain there is still not a deer behind every tree and get upset when they have to wok at...

Skip - he has decent deer numbers, but little opportunity. He had 4 deer come past at 75 yards and he shot the biggest one. He said one of his daughters saw them feeding in his back yard, she went out back and yelled at them, and then ended up running down behind his place where he was sitting...

Who is going to 'loose permission' because they shoot a shed buck? The farmers and FB wants them killed like you say??? And u think folks on this forum are the majority? Most here are horn hunters (myself included), but we are the minority. Get on a trapping website and see the responses they...

I got a text from my brother last night. He had just shot a big shed buck and was tickled to death as he loves venison and barely ever gets a chance to get out due to his family and work commitments. He is pretty sure it was the nice non-typical he had been getting pictures of at the oak tree...

Yea Skip, I am right there with ya! Those are 'hobby' expenses though, not meat expenses..... I am still trying to figure out how the $3K or so I spent this year on my new hobby called trapping is being handled by the wife??? She is not too impressed with my $168 in fur checks so far. Just...
