The 1.8" case limit basically limits the amount of powder a case can hold (yes, I know I'm being Captain Obvious here)
No case length limit, no limit on the powder (except how big of a case/bolt face you action has).
Magnum bolt...
If this bill DOES NOT HAVE the case length restriction of 1.8"...this is a Gateway bill to allow all rifle cartridges...
A 1.8" case length restriction would limit the allowable cartirdges to the AR style necked cartridges (and others) such as the ....375 Raptor, .375 SOCOM. .458 SOCOM...
NO...
I'm ASSUMING the "differnet language" will include the 1.8" case length limit. But the .350 to .50" cal language will stay (as it is now in the existing law)
But the bottle neck allowance will remain.
So the 375 SOCOM and 458 SOCOM, as well as a few other cartridges, are still in...

The .50 BMG is a .510" caliber round
Come on fellas...let the HF716 supporters voice their opinion all they want...thankfully SOME of them were forthright and honest as to what they wanted the end result to be...

Your emails need to include the list of allowable cartridges from .350 to .50" caliber with a LIMITLESS cartridge length (this is the list that Fishbonker posted).
This list includes many African game style cartridges that nobody in their right mind would let a kid shoot, to get the introduced...
Will somebody please email Mr. Windschitl the list Fishbonker posted of allowable cartridges that would be able to be used during the Iowa gun season, if the Bill passes...
The majority of the cartidges on the list Fishbonker posted are literally Dangerous game rounds. (you would expect to use...
Ok, let's take Matt W's and Nathan G's posts at face value...
And then I'll add to it...
Matt W. seemed to beat around the bush a little, but with his vague notions in his post it was apparent what he was getting at... gun/ammo sales, and future license sales...
Nathan G went full on AOC on...
OK, so who knows, maybe the LIMITLESS CASE LENGTH bill was introduced by someone who thought the legislators had no idea what a case length limit meant in regards to centerfire cartridges? Then the flood gates would open up on .375 to .50 cal centerfire cartridges being used during gun seasons...
The case length limit of 1.8" is on page 31 of the 2018-2019 Iowa regs booklet
Oops...you beat me to it..as I was looking for it.
I'm guessing the reason the limit was set at 1.8" is that there are other straight wall cartridges that are 1.8" +, that will extend the rifles range. OR... maybe...
This is gonna piss some of you guys off.... but here we go...

And typically the glass will be on par with the scopes ability to handle the recoil of a SML, in those types of scopes.
That should be your #1 concern...can this scope handle the recoil...
