    Deer Population Peak

I found this. http://www.iowadnr.gov/Portals/idnr/uploads/Hunting/2010_logbook.pdf Basically says deer were all but absent in Iowa in 1900, there were about 500-700 in 1936, and about 10,000 in 1950 (when they re-opened the deer season). Been going up every since, not counting the past 5 or...

    Deer Population Peak

Because there just weren't that many deer back then!!! There wasn't even a deer season till the 1950's or so because there were so few deer in Iowa, or in most parts of the country for that matter. In Iowa you couldn't even get a doe tag for first shotgun season in the middle 90s. The...

    Same deer?

Hard to tell, but my first impression is no. If you have lots of pics of the one from last year, how does his throat patch compare to the one you shot? It also looks like the one you shot has a dark patch on his brisket. Does that match up to last years pics? I usually look for other features...

    2011/12 Iowawhitetail running doe count

+6 for me (so far!!!). So 157! As for my running count of 'not shots', I'm not sure I can count that high!

    Plot Watchers

I have 2 plotwatchers and love them. I have last years model and the batteries (4 AAs) only last a week or so. I think the newer models are claiming longer battery life. I don't use them to try and ID animals that may be a long distance off, but to rather see what type of traffic is using...

    Round-up question

Does glysophate (sp?) loose any potency if you keep it from one season to the next? Also, if it freezes, does that have any impact on it also?

    Unused Deer Tag Survey

Yes, I would assume if you are calling in tags that you didn't fill that it would look like everyone is getting their deer and that the population is too high. BTW, I had 3 antlerless tags for first shotgun and filled them all, with no issue.

    Are tillers worth the expense

Tillers are the best for breaking up virgin soil. But once the ground/sod has been worked up, a disc will cut just as deep and is much, much faster for covering ground than a tiller. So in my opinion, if you are not creating 'new' food plots, you may want to spend you $$$ on other things...

    Big 8pt

I'd guess he is a 3 or 4 year old. Mid, maybe upper 130s. Perfect rack!

    Ouch!!

Pretty convincing, but I'd assume there would be at least a drop of blood on the riser after it was in there long enough to get around to taking a pic?????

    ATV's - couple questions

There may be more Polaris machines on the used market because more of them have been sold. Just like you'll find many more used Chevy's in the paper than you will some lesser selling foreign model. Make sense? I have a 2000 Sportsman 500. As for issues, one ripped up drive belt (after I had...

How many tags can you get for bow hunting?

You can shoot two bucks with your bow on public land. The first would be with your statewide archery tag and the second can be taken during late muzzy season. A bow is a legal weapon during late muzzy. You can not get two buck tags for public land that cover the bow season though if that was...

    Acorns Falling

I don't think this is early for them to fall. I see them on ground at the end of July/start of August every year. Different types may fall at different times of the year though???
