Cross Bows in Iowa....? I hope not

More bucks are killed with nonresident gun doe tags than you would ever lose to new crossbow hunters. Why does that issue not come up more? Party hunting will not go away, the NR doe tags for gun could. Just like they did for bow.

Cross Bows in Iowa....? I hope not

It seems that the individuals most concerned about the use of crossbows are worried about a delicate resource. What they meant to say was, "trophy bucks". I have yet to ever hear anyone that is not a "trophy buck" hunter make negative comments about crossbows. Keep in mind that the Iowa DNR...

    cobuying land

The best advice you will ever get is to NEVER do it. Buy a smaller parcel on your own, or wait until you can.

The SAGA of HeartAttack is finally over!!!

Same as the pictures from the prior year, right? It looks pretty shallow. If you made it a little deeper, you might not have to fill it every week.

    DNR public ICN meetings

The Governor's deer hunt was started when Gov. Branstad was in office the first time I believe. Back in the days of Tony Knight and Knight Rifles in Centerville, Iowa. There was a large banquet every year that the Gov & Tony Knight hosted in Centerville and various landowners would volunteer to...

    DNR public ICN meetings

There are 75 "governor" or "celebrity" tags. Anyone can apply through the DNR for them. Now that Gov. Branstad has started the Governor's hunt back up, he takes the majority of them for that. There were only about 10 left for the application process last year. It's a joint DNR, legislative...

    DNR public ICN meetings

Nice to see a better turn out this year. Dont forget to keep the pressure on the legislature and Governor's office. The DNR is on the same page as we are. But, they cant do much about it.

    Personalized plate

I would stay away from personalized plates and stickers that draw attention to a vehicle that is likely to have bows, guns, binos, range finders, etc. in it. Not to rain on your parade, but its true that it invites thieves. Just something to think about.

    Deer Numbers

The DNR did what was expected of them at the time under that guise that they would retain the power if they controlled the exploding population. They did what made the most sense for rapidly getting the numbers back to a "satisfactory" level. In the middle of the process, the Governor changed...

    Wow

Just an FYI. Willie Suchy and Dale Garner were rescheduled due to weather. They will still be presenting to the Natural Resources committee. I don't know when yet.

    Wow

The public meeting on ICN network is going to be Feb. 26 from 6-9. I don't know that it has been posted yet, but mark your calendars. If you want to be heard, show up. Watch for locations. Rest assured that the DNR knows what needs done and the Governors office and Natural Resource...

    land prices

I know of a really nice piece of mature timber that was about 35 acres just sold here (SC Iowa) for $3000/acre. Timber value also plays a roll in the value. I think the smaller parcels will continue to hold good value. I also think that the turn-key type hunting properties that already have a...

    New bill SF 2047

Third time you have changed this answer. Gonna stick with this one?;) Its okay, I know how unfair it seems to you. For most of us, it makes perfect sense. Moving on....

    New bill SF 2047

So, I would still have to pay the NR fee which is over twice as much. Got it. Thanks.

    New bill SF 2047

Really? So my license fees would be the same as a resident? What if I bought the lake? Would I still have to pay the higher nonresident license fee or would I get some concession on that? Maybe this is just apples to oranges...

    New bill SF 2047

If I bought lakefront property in Minnesota, would I still be considered a nonresident when I go there to fish? Would I still be expected to follow the nonresident fishing rules and regulations?
