What is the latest guys? I'm heading to extreme North MO for Saturday's gun opener. My brother has been bowhunting and it's been mostly slow......and frigid.
Once the does start hiding from the bucks I think timber hunts in the afternoon can be real good. Bucks will still check fields and plots but if they don't see anything they are back on the move. Twice in the last 2 years I've been sitting on plots while my target buck is on cam 150 yds away...
I'm surprised to hear Iowa has been on the slower side. Seems exreme Northern MO gets going 3-4 days before Southern IA. We've been seeing older bucks daily since we started hunting on 11\1 either out of stand or on cams. Older being 4 or older. Even saw a 6 year old geezer on Friday but he...
True, but the hottest days shift around a bit in my opinion. 2017 was really good on my farms late October through Nov 5 then slowed down noticeably. Most years November 5-10 are better. 2013 was on fire Nov 10-15 but slower up until then.

I've seen the bucks you shoot...you don't need no deercast, LOL.
Tonight and tomorrow evening have changed to good. Tuesday through Saturday are great both am and pm. They are also Red Moon days. We can't ask for better conditions!!

I agree with the others, they are awesome. There are some good rigs out there for less than the ones marketed to hunters if you look around. It's costly to sponsor all the pro hunters, LOL.
I been following it pretty close and as of yesterday have officially determined that it isn't very accurate. Some days it's been good but based on the weather it was a no brainer. Many other days it's been flat wrong. One day in particular this year, Sept 28th, it showed GREAT right on...
Updated picture a week later. Coming in better but it's obvious that the sod is the culprit. You can see the rows where did is not present. It's fighting through areas of sod too but it's a tough battle.
Thanks everyone for the input. We'll be getting after it next spring/summer.

Darn straight the weather will screw it up. I'm 6 hours away so timing is always an issue for our plots. I've got a guy to mow and spray so that helps a ton but he's busy and battles the weather like everyone else.
Great info, thank you. I was thinking of planting soybeans in the spring just so I could hit it multiple times with gly hoping it and the shade would kill the grass but it sounds like another failure in the making.
Thanks guys, great info. Sure sounds like a combo of thatch and live grass at time of my planting stifled me. Sounds like I can shelf my plant into cover crop and spray plan too which is ok. We will get back on our normal plan of spraying 2 weeks before planting. Learning curve for sure...
Maybe my expecations for no till are too high. I didn't feel the thatch was too thick and thought mulch was good as it keeps moisture and suppresses weeds. All part of the learning curve but I sure hope thatch was not my issue. My long term plan was to plant through my green cover crop then...
