    Saturday shed

Brow tine is gone, they almost chewed through the main beam between G1 and G2. G2 has serious damage and can't be sure long it was, G4 gone. But yes, for two years of chewing, could be much worse. I need to look back in trail cam pics and see if I can identify who carried it.

Wait until DSM catches wind of this

Appears that way from a quick look at their regs. There is no mention of a draw/lottery. Need a NR hunting license at $209 and a NR deer license at $501. Looks like their archery season is Oct 1 to Jan 15.

    Apple/Pear Trees

Grafting during a botany class way back when. Put tomato top on tobacco root and have poison tomatoes loaded with nicotine. I was successful grafting apple onto a dwarfing rootstock, but as a college student I had no place to plant it. :( Was told that one could graft a hop vine onto a...

    New respect for turkeys

We bought our farm in CRP, then transitioned to row crop when the contract expired. I tried farming using vacation and holidays from my day job. Left little time to hunt so opted to custom hire the farm work done. I found that the planting and harvest windows were not friendly to hunting for...

    Saturday shed

After turkey hunting Saturday, I happened to spot this two year old shed. It was in a place where I think I should have found it by now. With the chew marks on it, I think the squirrels moved it.

2025 Opening Day Archery Spring Turkey

Second hunt of the year couldn't have gone much better (well, maybe). Carrying all the gear in like a pack mule, the toms were gobbling from the roost to the west. I decided to change where I had planned to set up. I got the blind up and decoys out, was setting down at 6:23 am, with them...

    Dogwood cuttings

There are rooting hormones that you can dip the cut end in before stabbing it into the ground. Might be an unnecessary expense. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Year around food

Role of genetics and nutrition MSU link I hear lots of people planting fall cool season plots or fencing deer out of food plots so that there is something to hunt over. Maybe let them eat when they are growing that rack? Copy/paste from above link: Habitat Management In addition to...

    Tree planting in a timber

I fight hackberry, wild cherry, black locust and mulberry as invasives all the time, so maybe one of those might be an option. Hackberry and mulberry are my preferred if I had to pick something to leave/plant. Wildlife really like eating mulberries according to my cameras, especially raccoons :(

2025 Opening Day Archery Spring Turkey

No pictures, yet. ;) Though should have taken some yesterday. It was opening morning, had two days off work. I could hear the wind howl but it's opening day, Man! Can't skip it. Terrible night sleep Sunday night into Monday morning. Finally just gave up and got up at 4 am. You'd think...

    AMS Help

The radio station I listen to ran an ad lately where they warn of problems using hard well water for spraying herbicides. Short 30 sec ad so it doesn't go too deep into it. That wouldn't explain one tank being fine and the second a train wreck though. Don't think farmers have many options on...
