Safety Harness Save My Life This Morning

That is why I always have two ratchet straps on every stand. If one fails or breaks then I have a second to prevent the stand from falling. Sounds like your buddy got really lucky.

New property - where to hunt? - aerials

Deer need food, cover and water. Deer are probably eating in the field to the SE of the property then moving back thru the property you have marked to the refuge. Find where the deer are crossing the creek on the east boundry and set up a stands along the best trails. I would avoid setting up...

How much food on 40 acres?

What Dbltree said. I know that you were looking for a magic # of acres but you need to be sure to have enough food to attract and hold deer during the hunting season. I wouldn't be afraid to do at least 5-6 acres of various food types like Dbltree suggested. Depending on your neighbors you may...

How much food on 40 acres?

Where is your land at? Northern Michigan will be different than Southern Michigan. The amount of food you can grow in the growing season. The deer density will affect your selection. Also early season food or late season. Some more info will help to answer your question.

    Advice

I agree with letemgo's stand locations and muddy's stand just west of the pond in the finger. I wouldn't hunt/hang muddy's SW stand just because that line you said is public and I wouldn't want another deer or pheasant hunter walking under my stand while I'm hunting. Plus if your hanging...

    Disrespect

Not if you said you were there to take it down. Which is exactly what I would have done. It is your property and you have the right to come and remove it. If you are going to hunt public land get a Lone Wolf or Muddy with climbing sticks...hang and hunt. Otherwise you can plan to buy a...

    New to area

I agree with dedgeez, NE Iowa has some great public areas. Some really big deer come out of that part of the STATE.

    NRC betrays Iowa Sportsman Again!

I gave an example of an actual EPA study conducted in the backyard of the most liberal city in the entire United States. In a State that is home to the most liberal colleges. Where I'm sure the most liberal biased researchers in the country analized every aspect of this study. Yet after all the...

    NRC betrays Iowa Sportsman Again!

"BTW - you're WRONG about the EPA and lead. The EPA has an immense amount of regs regarding lead...it just hasn't spilled over into hunting side of things." I would disagree on the hunting side/lead shot issue. I believe the EPA has not implemented lead shot or ammunition regulations because...

    NRC betrays Iowa Sportsman Again!

I have seen numerous scavengers killed on the road. Mostly red-tailed hawks and turkey vultures. Regardless of the number killed on roads or powerlines. There is no shortage of scavengers/hawks or raptors in general anywhere in Iowa. The life expectancy of raptors/scavengers is generally being...

Drury outdoors, DNR roung table....great job

From 2010-11 Iowa Hunting Regulations: Resident means a natural person who meets one of the following criteria. 1. Has physically resided in this state as the person’s principal and primary residence or domicile for period of not less than 90 consecutive days immediately before applying...

    NRC betrays Iowa Sportsman Again!

Exactly!!! :way: 6x6 - I don't deny that a few scavengers die from lead ingestion. I am fairly confident that it is not from lead shot being used to hunt doves so your point concerning this legislation is a mute one to myself. If your goal was to promote the use of copper slugs for deer...

    NRC betrays Iowa Sportsman Again!

Why doesn't it suprise me that these studies come from California and England! Peer reviewed by libral professors with the same ideology. I sure would like to see where these researchers got their funding. Do you think it might skew their results/testing protocols. From New World Encyclopedia...

    NRC betrays Iowa Sportsman Again!

After making some calls I was told that the NRC's goals are to ultimately ban all lead. Not only ammunition (bullets, shot, slugs, pellets for air rifles, ect) but all fishing tackle (jig heads, sinkers, ect) even to go as far as to make it illegal to have in your possession lead of any kind...

Oh really?!?! Kinda sounds like FOI. Gonna sue the DNR and win. I'm sure the CO's and DNR are shaking in their boots. Can't wait to see this play out.
