Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

Daver, Mn still have LOTS of deer. Exception being the N.E. portion. I'm in N.W. Mn and we are actually to (or past) the carrying capacity in some areas. I really think Mn is going to start exploding with big bucks again soon.

Nice work Skip. You're a student on doing things right and it shows.;) There are millions of things that can make you (us) better trappers. I'll suggest joining trapperman.com and at the bottom of the page there will be an " archive " list. DAYS worth of reading from some of the best.

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

BRB, unfortunately that's not gonna happen. Just no way someone is gonna spend the kind of $ that prime farmland goes for only to let it go for wildlife/ habitat. When I was a kid growing up (late 70s) there were shelterbelts, old farmstead, grassy waterways, ect everywhere. It's all gone...

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

Yes. Winter of 22/ 23 Horrible!. Deer died by starvation by the 1000s. Even during the mild winters of 23/24 24/25 and so far this winter, our population has exploded! However, it's not a widespread thing. There are 1000s of square miles of ZERO habitat. Much like northern Iowa. You have...

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

Trying to sit on the side lines as I'm from MN. But how can #'s be increased state wide when there is so little habitat? Deer don't eat dirt? You fellas should check out what's been happening in ND the past 5 or so years. Many years it was known as a " sleeper" state. Lots of good quality...

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

Anytime I see fence that's not for containing livestock in a video, it's a fast click OFF! Anyone that owns land can do that. A sickening practice.

    Home made ladder stands

I've built lots of wood ladderstand. They are heavy to set up, kinda ugly on the landscape, hard to get them super quite, and bears love chewing them up. Lol.

Trapping coyotes on frozen creeks & in general, QUESTIONS!!!!

Good stuff guys. As for snares, to be safe around deer, have a reputable snare maker build them for you. Have them add " deer stops/ break aways on them.

Trapping coyotes on frozen creeks & in general, QUESTIONS!!!!

Glad to see some here are opening up to let hounds in for coyote control. Ask to join in when running, you'll find out hound guys are usually class act fellas.

Trapping coyotes on frozen creeks & in general, QUESTIONS!!!!

Not much help from me. I've always struggled catching them in winter. Freeze/ thaw conditions suck with foothold. Much prefer snares but I get your concern with deer.
