    Gratis/ landowner tag.

What %s of you fellas in Iowa think the compliant rate is for getting and using that tag on land that is supposed to be used for? Now, I live right on the border mn/ nd and know of a very large buck on the nd side. In the past 3 weeks, I've had 4 different landowners confess (brag) about...

    Log Splitter questions/recommendations

Absolutely! Good advice. I have a TSC 28 ton. I split about 5 cord of oak/ ash a year with it. Have had it for about 10 years. The original Briggs n Stratton motor crapped out with only a couple years on it. Put on a Honda and it runs great. I've split some big (over 30" ) oak cobs but I start...

Stuck at my cabin (snowstorm ) rant

Hmm?. OK. I guess I do. ;) I'm old and old school. I relish the blood trail. Like fresh meat also. You gonna salvage the meat after a 24 hour wait 83?. Didn't think so.:)

Stuck at my cabin (snowstorm ) rant

Let's give our woodsmanship skills a workout first. (that's how we LEARN) I can forsee a new crop of hunters coming in, flinging arrows and well, (let's call in a dog guy". Sure hate to see it become The New Norm. Learning how to bloodtrail is part of hunting SO Learn How To Do It! Hell...

Stuck at my cabin (snowstorm ) rant

I'm not knocking using dogs to track a deer. Let's be honest about it though. I'm guessing the vast majority of deer can be found just by blood trailing. To give it no effort ain't right. That deer can be laying dead 50 yards from impact and to wait that long to start trailing is Wanton Waste...

Stuck at my cabin (snowstorm ) rant

Bad weather today so have been watching YouTube hunting vids since 4: 30 this morning. One thing that has got me riled up for some time now is the proliferation of t.v. stars calling in for a tracking dog after the shot. Used to be, they'd try n track the deer first but couldn't find it. Now...

Had the cops bring me home several times. Got caught shooting purple Martin's out of back yards birdhouses. Yep, shame on me. Mom would scold me, I'd grab my slingshot and onto the next adventure. Lol. Was about 9/10 years old when I got my first slingshot. Was with my grandpa and...

Converting invasives to natives, worth the squeeze?

Well, I'm gonna buck the norm (again) lol. My small piece of Heaven has been invaded by Buckthorn for many year. Tried for years to knock it down. Could not do it. Now, I'm literally EMBRACING it. Invasive or not, it provided extremely great bedding cover during our harsh winters, deer (bucks)...
