    2025-04-30/dnr-present-proposed-western-iowa-deer-hunting-regulations-meetings

We Well I’ve probably found a couple hundred since 2021. Last spring was one for every 40 acres I shed hunted. One saving grace for the deer that are still left is the number of people that just gave up hunting here. Those that still do don’t hunt as much as they used to.

    Herbicide Basics

Looks like that’s zidua + cadet We use a TON of zidua and it works great, cadet not so much. It’s not too cheap and if you have a GMO bean you will have better options. But zidua is well worth the price for sure.

Di flex or status will get rid of them if they are 24D beans , Callisto should smoke them too.

Where to rent a tree spade??

I’ve got a small grove of ninebark that’s getting torn out to clean up an acreage. They’re about 25 miles from my farm , has anyone on here had much luck spading them and then hauling a bunch on a trailer and then planting them ? Would I need to wrap the root balls somehow ? **They’re fully grown

So your friend is downstream and the tile would go through his also draining his wet ground? Is it crop ground or trees on your friend’s?

    EHD POND WENT BYE-BYE!!!!

You should sample that silt in the bottom, I did this in a cattle pasture pond a couple years ago and there was quite a bit of fertility in it. It would also be interesting to know what may have been in the soil there to make that pond the EHD pond. Obviously the layout of the pond has a lot to...

    Water Hole Tips

My favorite one Ive built I used a tractor tire with one sidewall cut out and poured concrete in the bottom to seal it. I made sure I had it in the lowest area possible so the natural runoff would help keep it full.

    Spraying vs burning crp?

The DNR is in the process of clear cutting 300 acres of state forest here that a wildfire went through in 2023 and top killed a lot of the oak trees. They claim they’re worried it will come back with invasives if they leave the standing trees, but won’t it come back with invasives when it’s...

    What corn and bean seed?

I’m going to use zidua pro, 2.5# of AMS, 32 oz of roundup, and 16 oz of mso this year , good on both corn and beans. In a perfect world I would spray right behind the planter because the trash whips can move the pre off the row a little bit. But if the logistics and weather won’t cooperate spray...

    Pell lime

The top 6” on an acre is something like 2,000,000 pounds of soil. If at all possible I would find a way to go with ag lime if your PH is way out of line and if the plot has much size to it. I’ve spread up to 10,000 pounds per acre of ag lime on fields. I would think a dump trailer or a small...

    Pell lime

Our retailer in town is at $275 a ton for pel lime. I haven’t bought ag lime in a while but I’m thinking at was in the ballpark of $40-$50 a ton for the lime, trucked, and applied.

    Simazine and trees

Judging from the trees in the field edges along the fields I spray they can take a lot of abuse from a wide variety of chemicals and seem to grow back faster. I had a patch of cedars I planted for a screen that got overtaken by poison hemlock about ten years ago. I hung the boom over them with...

    Prepping for switchgrass

I rotary tilled a few patches of brome last May and then seeded it thick right before a rain. Got a beautiful stand about 3’ tall first year. Didn’t have the option to spray most of the patches and rain stopped me from getting all but one patch packed. Packed and sprayed was the best stand but...

    Question on Turkey numbers….

Shouldn’t need a bounty to convince anyone to kill coons, it’s not hard to do. There’s plenty of different legal ways to kill them and getting the government involved has never had a good track record. Buy a dozen coon cuffs or a couple boxes of shells for someone you know with a thermal and...

    Doing it all wrong

So one thing I did do differently was I sprayed roundup on the brome last fall and then seeded the switch around Christmas, then came back a couple weeks ago with big bluestem and Indian grass. And just for good measure hit the brome again with roundup( pretty early but I’m going to get busy at...

    Doing it all wrong

How long did it take for the switch to get established? I ask because I just did about 15 acres pretty much the same way. I have scattered natives already trying to fight the brome so just killing the brome should have helped a lot.
