    Pro’s and con’s of selling without doing a 1031

If you buy a farm with an IRA, the IRS has restrictions on how much you can use the farm . They don’t like CRP in a Self Directed IRA (at least not in my case they didn’t ) … Farm land & timber are options. I wouldn’t put a blind on it, in case an IRS agent drives by or checks on it … which is...

    Minnesota rifles

Minnesota is changing to rifles in certain counties. Most north & central mn counties are rifle only . Southern MN has been shotgun for 50 yrs. My county (Pope) voted 4-1 to stay a shotgun county . Which we lobbied for ! Finally a good decision. The county commissioners vote. It’s kind of a...

    Pro’s and con’s of selling without doing a 1031

I believe that is correct. We have trusts set up for the boys to inherit .

    Pro’s and con’s of selling without doing a 1031

If you pass away, it goes to the heirs without the tax . That’s my plan .

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

Iowavf… you can just tag another persons deer in Minnesota, as long as both are legally hunting together .

Poll Question #7: Would you support ending all seasons by December 31?

The key time period is (January). Deer are stressed, & the bucks are starting to shed . Too many shed bucks killed . If there’s a compromise, have the season end Jan 2 or New Years Day ? It’s worse in cold states, like Minnesota. It’s one smart rule we have in Mn! The season ends Dec 31.

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

The biggest problem is they keep hunting. In this case with the 5 bucks, he was using tags of his wife, & who knows. They weren’t even hunting. So he took 5 bucks for 3 legit hunters ? I know my local warden has cracked down on that now. It would be a simple decision for Minnesota. I’d even...

Tim Waltz attack on deer farms. Whose farm is next?

I haven’t even read up on the Tim Walz deer farm situation. I will however, say he is probably the worst Governor in US history! Minneapolis was once a nice big city, he has helped make it a national embarrassment. What state or city has been in the news more in the last 6-7 years ? It’s...

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

Minnesota is not a true 1 buck state . They allow party hunting with all weapons. You can shoot multiple bucks. I know a guy that shot 5 in one year ? If Minnesota changed to one buck it would be a big upgrade. The biggest potential improvement would be to move the gun season back !

Poll Question #11: Should NRLO get yearly buck tags with a minimum qualifying acres

I’ve been vocal on tags over the years. So much has changed, I stay out of it now . My thoughts are 4 to 5 yr wait in tags if you own the land is way too much ! If it’s a 1-2 yr wait that’s not as bad . I understand the access issue . If they would set it at 320 acres or more , I would argue...

Buffer Strips - Habitat and Water

Some of the best deer habitat I’ve ever seen is a CRP contract ( like a riparian buffer) that has volunteer cedars and shingle oaks popping up in it . I found 6 sheds in one of those pockets of cover in Union County . The deer sign was insane.

What are you willing to give up

I went to a meeting in Minnesota yesterday in my county (Pope). The meeting was on whether the county should be rifles/any caliber or continue as it is now (Slugs) which it had been for 50+ yrs. It was packed house & it was about 50% for rifles & 50% against it (stay as a slug county) . Most of...

What are you willing to give up

I’ve said all along that 1 buck & season over by Dec 31 would go a long ways . I would give up anything after Dec 31, & as a NR landowner I can’t give up much more. Pretty restrictive already !

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

I think the fixer upper farm surrounded by tillable is a great idea and been discussed on different forums! In my opinion it would take 5-7 years to be a real attractive property for wildlife. I would say 10 yrs would be more ideal .

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

This is your argument? What is the ratio of bucks shot during gun & muzzy compared to archery ? If any Iowa county was archery only, could you imagine how good it would be ? Sign me up if any Iowa county goes archery only!
