    First time land purchase

If you can work that out, you won’t regret the purchase! If it has 21 tillable you can income to pay for it & improve it if you want ! Good luck & keep us posted !

Latest from my FSA office as of Dec 1

I know … typical government . Riparian buffer with trees is actually a great CRP program and can be put into a pasture with no cropping history …if it borders a creek . The problem is they pay $75-85 an acre. Jump that $150 & you would see this take off. Those trees would likely be there...

    Orange Army

Here’s hoping that the bucks on my farm sit tight/stay bedded & wait to move until after dark … but to others … Good luck !

The dumb cropping history rule ! If you had 4 out of 6 (key word — 4 out of the last 6 previous years ) wouldn’t that make sense ? It’s too bad an organization of experienced habitat managers couldn’t help make decisions on this . I realize Pheasants Forever & DU have seats at the table , but...

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

    Gratis/ landowner tag.

I’m not sure on that , but I wish Minnesota had that system in certain counties ! Gun hunters have to apply for a buck tag! That would be a dream !

    Decoys

I shot my first nice buck with a doe decoy in Minnesota. I could have jumped up and down that buck was so focused on that decoy ! Since then I have not used a decoy as much, especially a doe decoy. The other does seem to spook from it ? Maybe I need one of those really nice Dave Smith decoys...

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

I have never subscribed to the high deer population theory. It ends up in problems .. if you don’t think EHD hits areas of high deer populations, you might want up look again . Deer collisions with vehicles, farmers losing big #s of corn & soybeans . Small plots get crushed early, can’t plant...

    Future of CRP

Id like to see a 4 out of 7 yrs … crop history ? In the past 7 years ? How simple would that be? There’s some talk of being able to design your 10 or 20 acres ?…. that would be so kick ass ! I doubt that will ever pass !

    Bad Neighbor Tips

Make it work if you can, good luck !! I have a neighbor like this in Minnesota. If I could buy his 80 I’d be sitting great … luckily they haven’t figured out how to close the deal on the biggest bucks so far !! They get 3-5 deer per year though.
