    Expensive shed find

Wow, $2100 per tire. I haven't done any looking, yet, but I'm going to need some new tires before too long. I'll be holding off as long as possible. The Mrs. won't be too impressed if I dump much more $$ into the tractor this year just to feed some deer.

    Bridges

I just started a project like this, but more to drive over than for deer. I opted to use a 24 Inch diameter culvert that is 10 feet long and broken concrete as fill, and now I'm covering it all with dirt, This is at the emergency outlet for my pond in case the regular outlet gets plugged so...

    Watering hole

Are you guys not concerned with these being a breeding ground for EHD?

    Sunflower plots?

We did a 1/4 acre of sunflowers last year. We used multiple varieties totaling about a pound of seed. The deer ate the seedlings for sure, but by the time the heads matured they were above reach. They were in them a lot during late season and after. The fox tail came in thick underneath the...

    I fell…..

Scary deal. Glad to hear you're on the road to recovery. I find myself using ladder stands more and more as the years go on. I've never experienced a fall, but I've put myself in some stupid positions over the years messing around with hang ons and sticks. I've always worn a harness in the...

    Daughter's 1st Deer

We decided to get the hide tanned since it was her 1st, and it was something I've never done with one before. It turned out great, and I'm glad we did it. She has it hanging in her bedroom. .

    Dead ash timber improvements??

I don't have many, but I'll be cutting mine for firewood. It's amazing how quick the borer took them. 2020 they looked completely fine. I even had a stand in one. Spring of 2021 they didn't leaf out and the wood peckers have been tearing them up.

    Nonresident land owners of Iowa

My house only sits on a few thousand sq. ft. of my property. The rest I have to walk to or fire up the side x side, but I'm guessing that's not what you meant by your question. ;)

    Our own worst enemies

That was mostly tongue in cheek, and I phrased it wrong anyways, you wouldn't want me as a neighbor shooting all the 3 yr olds ;). In all honesty I've killed 3 bucks in the last 10 years, 2 were 3 yr olds, and 1 was 5. Ironically I passed a 3 year old 1/2 an hour before shooting the 5. I've...

    Our own worst enemies

Hopefully none of you are my neighbors, lol. I'm shooting a 150 any day of the season whether he's 3 or 12. I like seeing/shooting big deer, but it's not my top priority. Filling the freezer, providing opportunities for family/friends, and enjoying the property in general outside of deer hunting...

    Coyotes

1 so far. I worked really hard for him. He was in my backyard. It was a long walk from the couch to the gun safe.

    2021- the BIZARRE Year!!!!

We had plenty of good deer on cam, but more than usual were only at night. I only saw 1 mature deer from the stand during bow season and the only rut activity I saw was in late Oct. until 2nd gun season. The buck I shot on 12-11 was with a doe, and my brother saw several bucks bumping does...

    2nd Gun Success

It's a trophy to me, this is only the 3rd deer I've killed that is over 130. I was originally just going to do a euro mount because I always used an inch mark to decide if I was going to do a shoulder mount. Thankfully my wife of all people set me straight, and the deer is at the taxidermist...

    2nd Gun Success

Nothing crazy, but I shot this typical 6x5 opening morning of 2nd season. It's a 3 year old that didn't add much from last year, and I think he was destined to be narrow and short tined. He stopped broadside at 50 yards, and I'm thankful to have harvested him. This is the 1st deer I've shot on...

    21-22 Pheasant Season

Slick/Curtis those are some good looking dogs you have. My 12 year old lab has bad back legs and can't run like she used to. She's still good for a half hour hunt here and there. We managed to get 1 today.

    The "orange army"

My 1st experience deer hunting was part of a group of mostly family. We hunted the same properties that my grandpa started hunting when deer hunting was reestablished in the 50s/60s. Over the years fewer of us continued to make the trip as we aged and moved away. Sadly it sounds like last year...

About to be a bunch of Magic happening

    Story/Boone County Area

Boone County public is good as far as public goes. I spent ten years over there hunting only public. If you can avoid the people you can find really good deer. The deer in my avatar was a Boone County deer I chased for three years. My brother eventually shot it in 2018.

    Acorns to Oaks!

I have a 5 gallon bucket full of swamp white acorns my dad collected from the trees in his yard. I put some in pots today, and have a bunch of tree tubes on the way for the rest. I've planted and fenced a few trees here and there, but this is my 1st attempt at a large scale project starting from...
