What year did you start food plotting?

2006ish - was in 6th grade. My dad and I went through the trial and error together, some great memories! We still laugh about how dumb we were looking back on it. Did it all by hand but we had access to mountains of fine limestone from an old horse track - so we limed and limed and limed the...

    Planting Osage Orange

Is this how they planted hundreds of miles of hedgerows back in the day? I've always wondered how they all got planted.

How elusive/ secluded can deer be?

Old coyotes! Heck almost all coyotes - smartest thing in the midwestern woods. Heard once "if there were as few coyotes as mature bucks, nobody would ever kill them"

    Deer Reacting to Cell Cams

You're right on the radiofrequency part. It's not the same, but they actually have rednecks with solar charged lithum power for your phone, batteries etc.

    Deer Reacting to Cell Cams

The smell of messing with a camera I believe is WAY more educational to all deer. Tried gloves, spray, driving to them etc. See it every time. The antennas, clicks, big external power, etc. associated with cell cams could be more of the problem than the electro energy? Seems pre-mature...

    Deer Reacting to Cell Cams

In this example, the guy I'm referencing uses exclusively Reconyx. Made me wonder if it might vary brand to brand because I've never noticed the issue but only have one Reconyx cell.

    Deer Reacting to Cell Cams

Earlier this week I was lucky enough to attend a private seminar that a very well known whitetail figure did for a local hunt club he has been consulting on properties for recently. Overall most of it was basic info that a lot of us have heard and already know, but when the topic of cameras...

Tell me why we should shoot more does

Very solid thread. The too many doe thing is so property dependent. Most of the time it's just an excuse someone gives to kill stuff but there are no doubt high end farms that need it kept in check. Regarding the fewer top bucks topic I have some first hand unique experience I'll try to be...
