Always go with the red one any small engine! As far as size , a good rule of thumb is always buy the biggest they make ! I have one with a blown hydro seal that recently happened.(Probally 10 years of use) I'm not sure of size. However it's probably not the 40 ton.

Stuck at my cabin (snowstorm ) rant

I used a dog this year with a real similar situation. It was more about finding the deer than the antlers (as it was a 130type cull buck that's been around for years) I did call in a local guy/dog combo who did awsome by the way and wasn't in it for the $ as he was extremely fair! In my case...

I have weighed a ton after gutting but never before. Out of curiosity what what did the 292 and the 270s weigh after gutting?

Awsome. Do you gut while hanging on the hoist then? perhaps into that wagon?

Just curious I also like to weigh all our deer as well.... Also like to look at the jaw wear , and then follow up by sending in the teeth to matsons lab for centum adging. Are you weighing the deer before guting somehow?

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

I would dissagree with you here. I dont see a landowner coming up with this idea. I also dont see a hunter buying any of these pieces more of an agg / pasture piece. Just crazy to me to think a county would go along with this. I imagine the survey is not going to be cheap and I would not...

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

Here ia another reason for Iowa decline. This segmenting is hard to believe any county would go for this. This is ridiculous. Im sure it is the realtors suggestion.

    Bad Neighbor Tips

Here is the reality of the situation. There is only 1 way to win and that is buy them out. All the other bs you loose. It costs you time/money/energy/and bad use of your free time while killing the enjoyment. If you can't buy then sell and move on. Last option wait them out. I...

Agree old enough to put an arrow in. Exact age who knows. 5+ is my guess. He likes your mowed path. Hes probably wondering if you could add a few more.... would make it easier to sneak up on the does. Did you not take a shot?

Ameristep hang on stands and rapid rails

Another corky thing I always do is I buy four tree stands to make three. I take a ladder section from the fourth one and add it to each of the other three. Cannibalize some of the other parts to make extra braces.... It gets the tree stand height up above the normal ladder stand height...

Ameristep hang on stands and rapid rails

Another thing I always do is. Teak screw every ladder piece together. Also lag the ladder braces to the tree and bolt them to the tree stand. I usually add ladder braces so at least two per stand. At the end of the day they seem very solid and most of the cold squeaks are gone.

Ameristep hang on stands and rapid rails

I would say about every 5years.I will reset them. I usually have to use a half inch impact to get the lags out at that point in time. Other trees don't seem to grow up just out. Some have been set for over ten years

2025-2026 Team Contest Teams ( Score Card)

I enjoy seeing the kills on this post.Never really like the pretence of the contest being scored in inches. Kinda goes against everything we preach. ( And yes , I realize it's just for fun and not a big deal) just an idea.I thought may be more in line with dear management.... Would there be...

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

This is much easier said than done. There are so many 130" straight 8s it's very difficult to discern from year to year. When they have certain things that are unique sure but if not lost in the shuffle....

Ameristep hang on stands and rapid rails

I switched to all ladder stands as well. Safer for sure and go up fast. I Also feel better about my kids being in ladder stands as well. Don't hide quite as well however they get it done. Something I started doing years ago is lagging them to the tree with 5" ledger locks. Incredibly stable
