    Make Minnesota Iowa again?

What is shocking to me is about half the country still supports the Democrats. How is that even possible? Could you imagine this country if Harris and Walz had won the election. If you have kids that should scare the xxxxx out of you. I think there are so many freeloading losers in the USA now...

    Cold snap

    Cold snap

The deer are really hunkered down right now. I usually get a lot of pics on my standing ag and since yesterday eve I haven't been getting any pics. Brutal temps!

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

Agreed. You have to buy up as much as you can and get friends to buy in the same neighborhood. You really need to tie up 1000s of acres to have a chance. That is the only consistent chance of hunting mature deer until change takes place (which will probably not happen). I have a small farm (40...

    Before the echo podcast

If I remember right, he wasn't asked what Iowa could change to be even better. I do remember him asking Jace why Iowa was better than everyone else. A good question would be to ask him what we can do different to be even better.

    Pro’s and con’s of selling without doing a 1031

The only reason I can see for you not doing a 1031 exchange is if you think the capital gains tax will increase in the future. If the Dems take over, I could definitely see the tax increasing in the future.

    Pro’s and con’s of selling without doing a 1031

1031s have always been a no-brainer for me. If you have just a small profit when you sell, I could see paying the capital gains tax. But most have people have big gains on the sale. 100s of thousands profit on a sale is not uncommon.

    1st yr alfalfa

I have found a first year spring planting can be maintained with mowing but after that I’ve always had to bail it. Even with high deer numbers it needs to be bailed, and that is one reason so many people don’t like alfalfa. It’s more difficult to maintain. You could mow it frequently, but I’m...

    Series of poll questions inbound

Good polling questions…One thing I think is very important going forward in Iowa. Once something passes and is allowed, it is VERY difficult to ever change it. It’s like pulling teeth to remove something once it is law..Example that apply mostly for other states……Baiting, crossbow, rifles, and...

    In season deer feeding

The wardens say you actually have to catch them hunting over it or it fails in court. The 200 yard rule is where the cheaters get away with it. Banning it altogether would eliminate the gray area.

    In season deer feeding

Absolutely…Huge loophole and guys abuse it. It’s very difficult to bust guys baiting during the season and hunting near it.

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

Isn’t this the first year for rifles and crossbows during archery in Indiana? I’m not sure when they starting allowing rifles.

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

Don’t forget Iowa has over a month of basically rifle season. With the straight wall cartridge and long range muzzle loaders it’s like using a standard rifle for a month. In the not to distant past, it was shotguns with about a 100 yard range and muzzle loaders with about the same. Huge...

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

I think a lot of bucks were getting shot by nonresident party hunting..They were mostly hunting their own farm or another managed farm. Shooting a 3-4 year old buck late season (gun) over a corn or bean plot is about as easy as it gets. Unfortunately, I think that is when a lot of damage is done...

For me it’s bow hunting in January. My favorite time of year to hunt except maybe this year with the warm weather.

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

I think eventually Iowa will ban them on public, but as much as we’d like, it will never happen on private..Too many legal issues with doing that on private.
