    Current state of farming/ag

Ive never understood it. Some farmers run old equipment, vehicles, have old houses in bad shape etc. They seem broke. Then others are constantly driving the newest equipment, getting a new pickup every couple of years, nice houses, sxs's, going on vacations etc.

    Sheds

Im at 8. 5 fresh and 3 old. Its early yet, only 2/11. Most bucks still holding. If you are walking any kind of public ground the amount of people already pounding it is ridiculous. Of course, I am one of them though. I use to just find a few boot prints now and then, never saw another person...

    Pheasant rebound…

I went out new years day. Flushed a total of 25 birds by my count. Zero shot, flushed several roosters, but all to far out ahead for a shot. I guess not to bad for just two people walking and no dog, felt like a lot of walking though for what was seen. Walking crp ground.

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

I agree. So many guys just HAVE TO SHOOT something!! Gotta pull that trigger!! I think a lot of hunters are just not aware of how good things were and could be if they could just hold off sometimes. To many just have that tag burning a hole in their pocket. There could be 10 deer in the entire...

    I need my own property....

Sounds like you have options to free up money sooner than later if you want it. And keep in mind, land appreciates. The cars, harley, and boat depreciate.

    I need my own property....

Personally if I didnt know what kind of deer are in the area I would wait and keep saving for something bigger. Do you guys have vehicle payments? If so and you really want to buy something you could sell your vehicles and getting cheaper paid for cars and probably easily save $1000 a month...

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

    1. Increasing the herd population is the answer to me. Could you imagine how quickly the herd and age class would bounce back if there was a just a plain no doe harvest for 3 years statewide? Heck, say no deer hunting statewide for 2 years, even bucks. Could you imagine how many mature deer...

    I need my own property....

Sub $750 a month after the downpayment? And you are a dual income household? Buy it. That should be easy. Heck you could easily just sidegig your way to $750 a month and not even touch your regular income for the payments.

    I need my own property....

Tough to give my opinion without knowing your income, currently monthly expenses, price of the property, income off the property etc.

    Taking bets

I haven't shot anything this year yet. Not planning to shoot any does off my 80 acre farm. There's a couple mature bucks, but the stars have not aligned to get a crack at one. Its the fourth hunting season I have had it, first two years lots of deer, it was awesome. Then we had EHD end of 23', I...

    List is getting shorter

That'd be interesting. Sort of funny how Amos took him to public not to far away one morning and it turned into one of the better hunts Bill had all year. With how many acres Bill has and all the food and habitat work im sure another couple years he will start having some giants around every year.

    List is getting shorter

I really like watching Bill and Jared. Especially Bill, love his satellite aerials and how he goes over his plans and following along with his projects he does all year. The size of the farm he has/hunts I can't relate to though. Suprising how Bill has struggled to get big deer on his place and...

    What trees should I get?

I'm doing a cost-share program this winter/spring to do removal of multi flora and honeysuckle and then this spring will plant trees (bareroot seedlings) on about 4.5 acres along a creek bottom. The area is really thick in some spots with mfr and sporadic honeysuckle. There were a lot of ash...
